my suggestion, buy the car pictured earlier in this thread for $10K !!! you will get so close to that amount just in rust repair, body work, and paint, and you will have not even touched the rest of the car, engine, trans, interior, brakes & suspension, glass, etc , just my

It was quite exciting following this thread since the car is about 4 hours from me. But the pictures were obviously a bit disappointing......Still, for somebody looking specifically for a 1966 Bonneville wagon it would be a great car.

I also have a 1966 Bonneville wagon.
I wasn't really looking for one, but after I bought my 1966 Bonneville coupe I was monitoring eBay for parts etc. (and I still do, 7 years later!), and this wagon showed up. Very little interest in it, probably because it was quite rough, so I put in a bid and ended up being the high bidder at $1026.

And boy did I get what I paid for........but I wasn't surprised. Still, I drove it from Kansas to Ontario with minor problems, as a matter of fact it runs "like a bat out of hell", it runs ten times better than it looks!
Then it was sitting outside for a few years, and now it's in dry indoor storage.
What will I do with it? When I get the time I will do the bare minimum to get it roadworthy, fix some rust, paint it myself (outside), and just drive it as a driver. To completely restore it would take lots of $$$$, which I don't have. And I'd rather spend my money on the coupe.

But the wagon is definitely cool, and my 14 year old son loves it!

Nothing there that can't be fixed [easy for me to say] but it would be quite an expensive project. I'd be scared off by all that rust and chrome pitting.
I think you made the right decision by passing on it.

Your pictures sure make it look a lot rougher than the ad pictures! Definitely something you need to make sure you're up for.

The interior stuff looks bad but a good upholstery shop can do the seats and headliner. Yeah, it might not be factory correct, but you could definitely make it work. Carpet is relatively minor. The dash will be a challenge to find but it's the rust that would scare me. Once you start peeling stuff back, it might just keep getting worse.

For the right price, sure I might take a chance on it if i had the room, the time, and some body work talent. But for me the right price on something like this would be around half (or less) of what he's asking.

I would have to agree and already sent an email this morning advising that I will have to pass based on the condition of the car and the asking price.

Edit: He just emailed back and said how about $2700. I think he is trying hard to get rid of it and I am curious to find out what he paid for it.

A little note- these '60's full size wagons are awesome! They make people smile wherever you go. If you get one, you'll have more people coming up to you and talking than with any other car you could drive! I'm always amazed at the reactions my '69 Bonnie wagon gets every time I drive it.
Yesterday I took my 12 year old son and a team mate up to a football scrimmage about an hour away by interstate. My daughter and the other boy's sister (both 10) rode along. They got a kick out of waving to everyone from the 3rd seat as they went past. We were "only" cruising around 65-70 so lots of cars passed us. Nearly everyone was smiling, waving, giving thumbs up, honking, even hanging out the windows to shout "cool car!".
Everyone from teens to old folks smiling as they went past- try to get that reaction from your Mercedes SUV.

I forgot about those pictures... My bad.

But now that I went back and looked at them, can someone tell me why the rear trim piece on the nice Bonneville in post #28 only says PONTIAC and is a narrow as compared to the wide one on the other car? (My Bonneville also has the wide tailgate trim.)

Because they could not find the correct '66 Bonneville gate trim or replaced with a Catalina gate would be my guess.

Well its simple now, the owner needs to drop price to $1500 or less and needs top be made into a drag car with a IAII block , 4.5" stroke crank and a set of KRE High ports!
