I like the song well enough, and my first thought when I heard it on the radio was that it sounded like old VH. Not many "old" bands are able to come up with something decent when they try to make a comback.

Somebody mentioned Metallica, but IMO they did something almost unheard of by coming out with one of their best albums ever (Death Magnetic) long after they seemed to have "lost it"

DLR's tweeker crap and the VH brothers ego crap over the years is a turn off though.

And the whole pushing Michael anthony out was ridiculous. Whatever it takes to get your kid some fame I guess...

The van halens should of played there cards right and kept sammy around. They havnt done **** with out him.

I will say,the song is 'different'.But I`m a fan of VH,and always will be;I kinda like it.

What they said on WCCC a few months ago,is that the new VH album is gonna consist of songs from way back in the day that never got used.Some where complete,some not.

Whether there is any truth to that,dont know.

I`m curious to see what they get for ticket prices.Tickets go on sale Saturday for the Mohegan Sun show.

The last time they came here a few years back,they were getting $175 a piece;and the sumbitch sold out.Then they added a second show;dont know if they sold that one out.

The problem with Metallica is that they all decided to sober up, they had kids, and they lost their edge. When you watch "Some Kind Of Monster", and you see children in the studio, I knew it was all over. "Death Magnetic" is good, but no one cares anymore. In the past 10 years, they put out 2 albums (not including what is considered the worst album of 2011, possibly the worst album ever, the collaboration with Lou Reed).

Aerosmith is the same way. No new music in the past 10 years, just an album of covers.

With Van Halen, the split with Sammy Hagar came when Eddie and Alex, along with their manager, decided they should put out a greatest hits album in 1996. Hagar said it was unnecessary, he felt it was ripping off their fans, because true VH fans already had all their albums and songs. And besides, a greatest hits album means you've got nothing new to offer. The Van Halen's overrode Sammy's objections, and to add insult to injury, they recorded a couple new songs (with Roth) to get the hardcore fans to buy the album. The album went to #1, but this caused the rift, damaged their reputation, and the Van Halen's decided to fire Hagar. It's been downhill ever since.

Wasnt that the reason Sammy left in the first place? They wanted to do a Greatest Hits album and his feeling were what you wrote above.

Yep, that's exactly why Sammy left. However, according to the Van Halen's, Sammy quit. According to Hagar, Sammy was fired. I tend to believe the latter, as Michael Anthony stayed with Sammy.

Sammy stated that he was on his boat when the call came in, and Eddie told him that he (Sammy) just wasn't on the same page as the rest of the group, that he always wanted to go off and do solo stuff (not true), so Eddie fired him. Sammy was shocked. When the news hit the media, Eddie said that Sammy quit, probably to avoid the obvious questions that would follow, like "how come you guys (the Van Halen's) can't seem to get along with anyone?"

The first 2 Van Halen albums are simply incredible. After that, their work was spotty, with flashes of brilliance, until Hagar came in for 5150. The 5150 album was a solid, well-written album from start to finish.

Also disappointing that the Van Halen's couldn't put their egos aside for their Rock N Roll HOF induction. Only Hagar and Anthony showed up, with DLR being flaky, refusing to set foot on stage with Hagar, and the Van Halen's not speaking to anyone.

miss Anthony on bass. Wolfgang can play the notes. But Anthonys energy and back up vocals aint there. And i think they are definitly missed. Glad to see Eddie has gotten some of his chops back. After seeing him on the last tour in Chicago. God he sucked then.

I think the best Van Hagar album was Balance. Oddly enough it was thier last. Sammy hit notes on that album that I had never heard from him. While not regarded as thier best, I htink it brought out the best in all of them.

Van halen, my 2nd fav band of all time. If anyone know me, they know who #1 is.

Yep, I hear ya on that one. Van Halen is actually in my list of top 10 favorite bands. While that sounds like I don't like them that much, I have to say I have a LOT of favorite bands!

I know this has been discussed before, but where do you guitar players rank Eddie on the all-time guitarists lists? From the ability to play, to his importance in rock music? I personally place him VERY high on my list of guitarists that changed rock music, right up there with Hendrix and Page.

They're coming to Winnipeg too, I like their old stuff so I don't really care what the new material is like and they will most likely stick to the old popular songs in concert...so for that reason I would go.
There's no excitement in it though, I'd rather see/hear Micheal Anthony back. What would be really cool is if they all got along and had DLR do his VH hits then have Hagar come out and do his VH hits...now that would be something to get excited about.

Growing up Van Halen with DLR was it. PERIOD! I was like 15 when Diver Down came out and that's all it took. I practically worshiped all that VH stood for. Yeah, the break up was unbelievable and seeing DLR on his solo tour was pretty cool at the time. It took along time to accept Sammy leading VH, yet he seemed quite sucessful. I learned to more than like it.
I recently read Sammy's book 'Red'. If you have not, I highly recommend it. Really changed my outlook on DLR. I had tickets for when the last tour was and it got postponed and I got my $ back. Good for me but I still so wanted to see the band together live and w/o Michael, forget about it.
This new song, tattoo?... I lasted 1:42 into the video. Not for me. The Van Halen I knew died in 1984 and there's simply no replacing it. I'd gladly pay to see Sammy and Michael but not DLR and the VH brothers. Dave's attitude is just too much for me. For me its DLR or nothing when it comes to VH. Hagar was great with Montrose otherwise I will pass of him.

Funny, when Van Halen I came out I thought it was too much. The guitar was just too much for the rest of the band. Glad I realized what I was missing.

I'm assuming that since "Tattoo" is the first track on the record, that's why Ed chose it for release as the first single. (He's been known to do that before, like "Without You" from III)

From the looks of it, I only see one 'remake' of a vintage tune (She's the Woman), so I'm hoping the rest is new, original tunage! Time to step up, VH fans!
