I am a new member. Here is my project. In January I purchased a 64 Tempest Custom in nocturne blue with Aqua/blue 2 tone interior from the original owners. I have the original title and the envelope it was mailed in. It was well taken care of garaged and has 75K miles and is completely rust free. The car was a 326 2B 2 speed. We took the car down to bare metal and painted it Nightwatch metallic blue. all new rubber trim for the doors/windows etc. All chrome trim was re chromed. All the stainless either replaced or polished. We replaced the ball joints, idler arm, center link, pitman arm and control arms as well as new shocks. Bead blasted the remaining parts. Removed the rear end and bead blasted everything and installed 4:10 posi gears and added the control arm braces from Ames.
We have a performance prepped 700R4 trans mission with a 2200 stall convertor. We are currently assembling the engine. A 1966 389. Adding a tri power from the parts place. TRW flat top pistons, Eagle H beam rods, stock crank, #92 70cc heads with new valves, springs, retainers, performance angle job etc. Adding a crane 041 ram air cam with 1.5 roller tip rockers, Melling lifters Melling hi pressure pump, Crane double roller timing set. We hope to get the engine installed next week and the car running and on the road in about 3 weeks. She will wear 255/60R15 Rally wheels. She is a highly optioned car. 1W,2A,2K,2P,4G,5W

I am in the process of purching a 1962 Tempest. I have a thousand questions but i will only ask one at a time. I hope my time at Norwalk looking over what other people have done will answer alot of my questions.
Question 1. Are there any headers from another Pontiac model that will fit the 62 Tempest? Or do I have to coustom build them?

If your using d-port heads headers for
A 70-81 firebird will work with maybe a little tweeking. If your using round port heads then a set of 68-72 LeMans headers will work with rerouting some tubes mostly on the drivers side. On the pass side there real close to the frame rail but a little fab work and they'll fit. If you go to Norwalk be sure to visit the PIT side you will see some pretty neat enginuity on 61-63 Tempest and LeMans cars not to mention a host of other cool rides also. Hope this helps some Rick 67. GT. |
