Not usually big on aftermarket parts, but I wanted to use the M/T covers and looked dumb with stock air cleaner. I had to grind the flange down and JB an adapter in to make it fit, but works well. Sounds better at WOT to boot.

I shaved about 1/2" off the base with a belt sander. Then used a Mr. Gasket adapter which I used up the last 1/3+ of an industrial sized pack of JB Weld to set it in the base. I bought it on E-Bay and it had a Rausch return address on it. Very heavy cast aluminum.

I believe this is a '66 Bonneville. Photo from '67. In the words of Cheech Marin - Check how fine she is. Door edge guards, massive whip antenna, big old mud guard. That dude just wanted to profile. They did not really need it at that scrimmage. Ride me to the Pearly Gates in that is all I can say.

1. Nice looking M/T covers...would like to know the process used to clean off the fins...as I have a couple of sets here, one on non-stock engine.

2. Nice ambulance photo... I wonder what that one weighed in @ while fully dressed out with added safety gear and loaded with EMT and patients? 6,000lbs or more perhaps?

Are those wheel covers or wheels?Look like a ten bolt patern.If they are covers,I would think they would be 15".

The covers had a coat of paint on them when I started. I cleaned them a little bit w/ steel wool & put another light coat on them. I quickly removed the new paint from the fins etc. with steel wool. Then I went from 220 down to 600 paper, moving in the same direction on the parts I wanted to polish at all times until they were good enough. I then coated with 2 coats of Eastwood diamond clear on the exposed metal. It eats the Plasticote paint, so if you go that route, a word to the wise on that. It did not eat the early pontiac blue I tested it on, just the metallic '66 color. Doh!

I was wondering the same on the weight of that thing. I was thinking 8,000 on that since Suburbans can weigh that. It just looks heavy sitting there. The lights are spectacular.

Wonder if the wheels were factory. Look like '63 caps. Wouldn't fit '66 wheels.

Factory wheels 15" and they used the 63 tempest 15" caps ,14" was standard

The hubcaps on the police car are specific to full size Pontiacs from 1962 to 1966, and used on the 65-66 cars with the heavy duty braking option (police, taxi and ambulance) which included 15" wheels. The hubcaps are held on by clips. I have a NOS set that I'm going to put on my car when I take the 8 lugs off. I got the 15" wheels off of a 1966 ambulance.
