Based on V8 Supercar et al discussion contents I feel these comments belong on this thread also

Here is the 2013 schedule. 15 events total, one outside the Australia/New Zealand area.

Apr 5-7 Tasmania 360 Symmons Plains Raceway Launceston, Tasmania
Apr 12-14 ITM 400 Auckland Pukekohe Park Raceway Pukekohe, New Zealand
May 3-5 Chilli Perth Challenge Barbagallo Raceway Perth, Western Australia
May 17-19 Austin 400 Circuit of the Americas Austin, Texas
Jun 14-16 Skycity Triple Crown Hidden Valley Raceway Darwin, Northern Territory
Jul 5-7 Sucrogen Townsville 400 Townsville Street Circuit Townsville, Queensland
Jul 27-28 Coates Hire Ipswich 360 Queensland Raceway Ipswich, Queensland
Aug 23-24 Winton 360 Winton Motor Raceway Benalla, Victoria
Sep 13-15 Sandown 500 Sandown Raceway Melbourne, Victoria
Oct 10-13 Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 Mount Panorama Circuit Bathurst, New South Wales
Oct 25-27 Armor All Gold Coast 600 Surfers Paradise Street Circuit Surfers Paradise, Queensland
Nov 23-24 Phillip Island 360 Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit Phillip Island, Victoria
Dec 6-Dec 8 Sydney 500 Homebush Street Circuit Sydney, New South Wales

COTA is a new track and they need to bring races (any races) to the circuit to validate the time and money put into it. As they couldn't get either a Nationwide or a Cup road course there, they settled for V8 Supercars.

And even with the Aussie's they only drew 68,891 for the 3 day event.

"Attendance for the three-day event, which was marked by record temperatures in the mid-90s, was 68,891. Approximately nine percent of fans who purchased tickets in advance of the race came from Australia to watch their Supercars heroes compete under the red-hot Texas sun."

Yes. Was interesting to see the Aussie racers comment and succumb to the early summer heat during the races. I'd have thought it gets as bad or worse in Aussie...perhaps they race in their cooler "winter" conditions? IIRC - Australian Winter is same time as our Summer?

I'll have to attend a live event to see if I'm interested more than the broadcast generated for me. Translation: Boring.

Perhaps the next races will generate more excitement and interest? Who knows.

V8 Supercars have been racing in China and the Middle East...now the US.
I think they're trying for an F1 style world circuit now that they have Mercedes and Nissan on board with cars. Since the Commodore is represented, it wouldn't take any developement work at all to field a team with a pair of Chevy SS's.
Mind you, these cars bear NO actual resemblance (except visually) with any production car at all.....which is a downer for me. I like production touring car racing.
