On a whim, when I was 16, I bought my dad a model car of a 1967 Fastback Mustang. I knoew he loved those cars and it was even painted green (his favorite color). Little did I know, there was just a small amount of assembly required....

He spent three weeks putting it together, painting it and putting it up on display. 22 years later, it is on the bookshelf in his office. I couldn't afford the real thing, so I got him a model of his favorite car in his favorite color...

Just an idea.

I will see if my mom can find some pictures of him and his bike because that would be an awesome gift! If I got him a model, I would end up building it for him! Haha.

There are several schools for the driving experience. But I've heard good things about the Richard Petty Driving Experience: http://www.drivepetty.com/

They have 24 different tracks available for the experience. Personally, I want to do Charlotte.

The other thing that could be done is to take Dad to a Cup race as you said he likes NASCAR. Pocono is this weekend and August 4th is the second race. Watkins Glen wouldn't be too far, New Hampshire, Dover, Kentucky, Richmond, Bristol, Martinsville...

Being at the race is so much better than watching on TV. Watching the tube - you only get to see the race they show you. If you have a favorite driver - you can follow him as much as you want.

I like this idea. The biggest problem might be my dad being able to get in and out of the car through the window lol. I am going to looking the one at Dover a little more. But for the time being, if anyone else has any suggestions please feel free to post them!

Try and find something to do that was his favorite hobby/pasttime when he was young and take him down memory lane. The life experiences we can share with our parents have no dollar value but the value of memories are priceless.

Every time I go to one of my friend's house he has to take me out to his "sanctuary" and show me what he has done since my last visit. He always points out the two poster size pictures of his 57 Chevy and 63 Corvette that his son gave him for father's day last year.
He is more proud of the pictures than the cars.
I am just thankful that my son is doing well and calls me on a regular basis.

Do you think he's too heavy, or do you think he's so old that he's not flexible enough...

I'm 59 year old sexy senior citizen and can climb in and out of a race car no problem. I know people much older than I am that do it also.

I've also seen 300+ pound men get in and out of race cars.

Ive got a couple of pics blown up of my 66. They are printed on a canvas and wrapped on a frame. I sold the car, but I wouldn't trade those pics for anything and they hang proudly in my office and in the front foyer of the house. That car was big part of my life for a long time.

The pic idea is the best.

the best gift by far I have ever gotten is the phone call when my Son says happy fathers day Dad and I love you ! if it is possible for him to be around on that day the hug a get is always a nice bonus ! I don't need or want anything else

My daughters are 10 and 13. I would have to say the best gift still for me are the homemade crayon happy fathers day cards. It never gets old.

Thanks for the input guys. I am gong to search threw all the old pictures to see if I can find something good. I guess my dad would be able to get into/out of the race car from the way you described it.

Dads are real easy to please...They don't require much in the way of material gifts and such. The grilled steak sounds great....but with that said and seeing that he is a motorcycle enthusiast, he would love this place...

It may be un-doable on short notice as it's a ways out for you but it is an unforgettable place. Even my wife loved it and she couldn't care less about motorcycles in general.
Maybe on Father's Day you could present a pair of tickets to the place to be redeemed at a later date.
What's cool is that they have a race track adjacent to the 5 story museum. The entire back wall of the museum is glass and you can watch the race while you browse the collection. Motorcycle enthusiasts from all over the world visit this place. It's truly an awesome collection and a gorgeous facility. The website doesn't do it justice and I guarantee you, he'll love it.
Lastly, I'll say that the fact that he has a 16 yo son that would come on here and ask a question like you have is probably present enough for him.

It is great to see that you are 16 and you said the firbird is more for you than him. That right there would make me a proud dad knowing my son would want to be into the old cars as yourself. Kudos to you and whatever you decide big or smal. It does not matter what it is I'm sure he will be more than happy that it came from you.

Thanks. I kind of got him into the hobby now though

the firebird is the reason that I want to do something nice for him, to show how much I appreciate it.
