Where does PHS fit into the math - i'm thinking greed laziness and/or mis-management.

$65 is too much increase for the same old same old.
Not a question of be thankful - its been with us constantly for 20+ years now.
Nothing new.
PHS should be more thankful for US - imho
I have not seen that in any form or fashion.

Not going to happen. Beer to nuts Jim already has this outlined for his executor in his will and there'll be a line of people wanting to buy this business if he wants to sell it. The value of it depends upon how it is ran up to that point. He is no dummy and like everyone else he doesn't want to do this forever. He'll want to retire and stop having to deal with people in general and some blokes that are mostly found here lol.

His son is already involved in the business.

But, my car is a Pontiac-built car so I know the info is accurate. I expected the price would go up over the years but if you've got a Pontiac-built car the documentation is worth every penny. Almost every GTO I see for sale proudly displays 'PHS documented'.

The idea of counterfeiting these documents never occurred to me and I hope it doesn't start showing up. I paid extra for the window invoice but it's a nice addition.

At $65 it's a bargain but I agree PHS should inform customers that Fremont & KC cars have questionable documentation.
Ron - those are some cool documents right there.

The '64 document more closely resembles the build sheet than does the (invoice) punch card that you get with the '65 information, so the information is more intuitive.

However, I would suggest that you obscure the key codes and the VIN before posting. That information is probably a little more "personal" than what you want out on the internet.

Well then possibly the value of PHS is already running its course.

I'd say morals keep honest people honest. Locks make thieves skilled.

Locks? we don't need no stinking locks! LOL! I bet most '64 "GTOs" don't even have their original key tumblers, just a hunch...

The '64 GTO I have now has original locks.

But the one I bought in '73 was missing the driver door lock cylinder. I would always lock the door, but unlocked it by sticking my finger in the lock hole and tripping the lock mechanism. I owned little of value back then and only paid $150 for the car (GTO convertible, 4 bbl, 3 spd, I owner). A $25 PHS would have been expensive relative to the value of the car back then. Not so much today.

Just to clear up a misunderstanding about the PHS decodes for '64.

My present '64 GTO is Fremont built. There is no confusion with the '64 Fremont docs, the options are spelled out by written description. PHS accurately decodes the Fremont docs.

The only ones that PHS decodes incorrectly are the '64 Kansas City and Baltimore builds.

I'm proud of my article that was published in Smoke Signals a couple years ago. Anybody with a KC or Balt built '64 can still benefit from the PHS document and make use of the article to get the correct decode.

The '64 KC & Balt docs are actually more informative than others because they include a variety of manifest codes and an imprint of the Assembly Plant plate portion of the Ident-O-Plate (later known as the Protect-O-Plate).

There are still some KC & Balt option codes that I haven't figured out. But most of the more common options can be readily decoded.

PHS stepped up and supplied the requested unhighlighted option sheet and explanation as to why '64 KC & Bal plant built cars aren't decoded correctly. Other things were conveyed, which will be dealt with privately.

Thank you, Jim. Case closed.

Default PHS Documents

Honest-to-God I don't know what you guys are talking about in terms of the value of PHS documents - the only thing that paperwork really tells us is what the tags or drive train we’re looking at represented for a build on some car at factory roll-off day. It doesn't necessarily mean our sheet-metal was actually constructed that way on factory roll-off day! If you've owned the car for many years or you stumble onto an unmolested barn find I guess they may be helpful but for any complete restoration I wouldn't put any stock into them - other to make sure the restorer did a decent job with the cloning. (Boss, for all we know 1/2 the 69 Trans Am's we have today were 69 Firebirds!). Swapping tags has been discussed here in the past and (sadly) the majority of posters didn’t have a problem with it so again I ask - what's all the fuss about? Make sure it has the '242' or '5N' or whatever and save the $65 bucks.

Did you know that not all legitimate GTO's have the '5N'?

I doubt if he does Champ. With that statement he basically "threw away" all of the legit Baltimore, Md and Fremont, Ca cars as being non GTOs (clones).
