Yep Steve...takes a thin wall socket to slip over the lug nuts on my Datsun.

Gary, I should have a couple more...Actually I just checked and I have FOUR more...A Snap-On, Black Hawk, Craftsman and a no name.
Only problem is the one I broke was the only half-inch drive I had...but I don't generally need that for spark plugs.

Here are some pics of the A/C bracket on my car. First, is it mounted right? Second, if it is why can't I get a socket on the plug? Even a thin wall will not clear the bracket.

Anyway, nothing new on the car. I may be going to Ellijay Friday to pick up my Buddie's 57 Chevy and will see if the shop might have my A/C extension harness. If not, I will have to order another one.

I have a 5/8ths plug socket I did that to and it works great. Just make sure as Charles said to cut down the top where the ratchet of extension slips in. I've seen a guy cut the bottom plug end and he ruined the socket.

Phil, you could also use a universal or a 'wobbly' extension. The ones that will move a little to the side in a socket.

I know it is hard to see in the picture but the socket will not clear the bracket to go on the plug. And, if it did clear, once I backed the plug out the socket would hit the inside of the bracket.
I can either grind the bracket, cut a socket down or use shorty plugs.

It might be best all around to grind a little off the bracket Phil for clearance. Nobody will notice it but us. LOL

The bracket will have to take the backseat for a little while as I have two more pressing problems!
First, I have a problem with the convertible top operating right but, more importantly, the transmission has developed a problem! It starts by making a chirp when it shifts from 1st to second. Then it will start shifting a little hard and finally it will act like a manual when you miss a shift. It won't go into second until I let off the gas. It only happens between first and second gear. It shifts fine going into drive and it downshifts normally.
I took it by the transmission shop Friday but the owner was not in yet. His wife/secretary came out to look at the car and watched as I drove off. When it missed the shift I motioned to her and she nodded in response so I know ahe is aware of the problem.
One, other note is that it doesn't do it all the time. Could it be a valve sticking?

I hope that is all that's wrong. The owner of the shop told me not to do anything to the tranny. Just bring it to him and he will fix it. This guy guarantees all his work for as long as you have the car so I trust he will do the right thing.
When I first tried to mate the tranny to the motor I didn't seat the torque converter fully and ended up breaking the ears off the pump drive! He replaced that part at no cost even though it was my fault. Then he showed me how to correctly seat the converter.

Snap on make a nice thin walled socket with a 3/8 drive wiggle extension built into the socket that's what I use works great.

Sunday, beautiful Sunday! The car was in and out of the shop in one day, transmission problem gone! All it took was some minor work to the valve body to fix a sticking valve.
But, now I have another problem. When I took the car in I told them that to get it into drive you have to bump the shift lever back. Well, when I picked it up that problem was also solved but, when I got it home it wouldn't go into park! I put a repro cable in and I think that may be the problem. I have heard that they are not the best.
So, I am going to reinstall the old cable and see if that helps. Unless Y'all have another solution. And, I live in flat land so it is not a problem to set the parking brake when I take the car out.
And, my top has been working correctly so I am going to leave it alone for now.
On another note I had two firsts with the car Saturday. I washed it with real soap and water and I drove it after dark!
It had some tree sap on it that resulted in the wash job and we went to the cruise=in and afterwards ate dinner with some of the other cruisers which caused us to be after dark driving home. Next thing you know I'll be driving it out of town!
I didn't spend any money on it and didn't do any work either. I like those kind of weeks!

I'm assuming you have a his and hers shifter Phil? If so, I had the same problem out of the repop cable. Can't remember if I got it from Ames or PY but whichever it was, there were two cables listed with one being quite a bit cheaper than the other.
The more expensive one fixed the problem.

Yeah, and I just got a stark reminder of that fact this morning. Been working for the last 3 hours on my 55" TV after replacing the projection lamp with a 'great deal'.
It was one third the price but only lasted four months as opposed to two years...AND it almost ruined my TV by heating up and melting the plastic plug housing. What a pain getting that out!

A friend had the same problem this year with his 67. His/hers. We found an original cable and that fixed it.
