I agree! I loved the box art. We used to build 1/72 WWII aircraft, and some of my favorite box art was from Frog (I believe they were a French company, later bought out by AMT). Some of their kits had box art with no writing, so you could cut out the box top and frame it.

About 20 years ago I had a boss that was a P-38 pilot. His brother worked upstairs and also flew the P-38. I heard that there was a 3rd brother that was also a P-38 pilot. Now that had to be unique.

Funny you should mention that. I was that guy in school and wish I still had some of the drawings I gave away. In fact, I still have a painting I did based on the P-51 pic above. I painted OK but my pencil skills were/are better. I still do some drawing occasionally.

I also drew pictures of WWII combat aircraft incessantly during High School. I later graduated to drawing USAF jet fighters once I got into the Air Force and became a Crew Chief on the F-4E Phantom. All my drawings were in pencil and I still have a folder full of them somewhere. I never graduated to using paint. I also drew hot-rods and dragsters during the same time but planes captured my imagination the most.

Very cool letter. Businessmen really knew how to write proper business letters back in those days. The business communications I receive from my vendors and customers today is barely grade school level grammar. Obviously a mistake was made regarding the gender of the recipient of the letter in your Aunt's case, but the word-crafting and proper use of punctuation is representative of what was very common during that business era.

Excellent addition to the vintage thread, and family history too.

I noticed the date of letter written (April 18, 1938) and the 'expiration date' (June 30, 1938) of 'master staus' is very short time-frame; less than six months. Heck, less than a business quarter. So...according to the letter, she'd have to continue to receive these for a later time 'two year' spiff.

Wonder what, if any, the backstory is on the dates? And if this is an error; or they were really that stingy with the 'master' designation?

I wouldn't be surprised if there were more than a few here who have such hidden talents. Maybe someone should start a thread on that. I know that there are a couple here who have posted some artwork of theirs or of relatives.

Not only are your comments relevant regarding business letter construction and grammar but I thought this document was insightful with regard to how my alma mater felt about its students, their appearance and (foremost) their relationship with the corporation.

I went to business school 10 years ago - and saw the same from my classmates. Their writing was terrible: when we did group papers, I was always saying stuff like "Have you ever heard of writing an outline? That you don't write like you talk? Is English your first language?"

Today, I write a monthly article in a trade journal. I'm always amused at how awful my competitors' writing is. The best class I ever took was 11th grade English with the high school football coach. We spent the entire year writing papers while following a very strict structure - and it has stuck with me.

I often wondered about that myself. I think it came with the caps in hammock photo. When I got the 1980 it had the caps from the standing photo on it. Papa worked at the dealership so there is no telling what kind of crazy swapping might have gone on. He passed away before I turned sixteen so I never really got to hear all of the stories. I do remember standing up in the back, looking over his shoulder and him trying to make me sit down by stomping on the gas pedal I fell in love with that car at a very young age.

The first set fit the car better I think, probably the OEM. My friend's '67 Bonny has the same.
I remember standing in the back of my uncle's '66 Bonny, driving the hills of PA, looking over his shoulder, and getting sick into the front seat on our way to Dorney Park. Funny how you remember certain clips of your life.
