Hood Hinge Restoration
Does anyone out there have a good source for Hood Hinge restoration? The ones on my 71 Formula are a bit whipped.

There is not much restoration besides blasting and having manganese phosphate plated( black phosphate). But if the springs are shot you can buy replacement springs.

If your old hinges are sloppy and the rivets worn, these guys will restore your hinges including drilling out all the rivets and machine new correct rivets. They also blast and will optionally powder coat if you prefer. They did my '72 hinges and a number of other PY members as well: http://www.hoodhingerepair.com/

Thanks for the good info guys. I'll check with them on Monday. I'd like to get the rivets replaced and have them plated if they do that. If not, I guess powdercoating would be OK.

If you want the phosphate plating to look and last like OEM GM did, Paramount Metal Finishing in New Jersey is my favorite place. I have found the commercial plating shops compared to the do it yourself kits is just no comparison. You will end up with same quality GM currently gets. Look them up on yahoo, you will see they do it all, GM,Ford and Chrysler spec'd plating, military contract platings.The entire gambit. Just get a better finish. Plus sending your original, they can confirm what was originally used.FWIW< they confirmed my hood release latch and these hinges were originally manganese phosphate plated.

SMS in New Hampshire rebuilds hood hinges, and re-phosphates them too.

Roland Hall is the man. He adds a very thin stainless shim between the sliding halves and the hinges work fantastic. Correct plating as well. All rivets are hand made to fit repaired holes and stamped to the correct appearance.

I had Roland Hall go through my hood hinges and they work awesome! The hood closes well, and has the correct phosphate color.
