Nice runs! It's always great with these proven big torque 455 engine combo's when you can run "race" car numbers w/o a lot of gear or converter.

This is the best time of year to do it, as we start making a LOT more power than in the hot/humid months. The biggest obstacle to overcome at that point is getting the power to the ground on a colder track, and judging by the wide range of 60' times from your runs you were working really hard at it, congrats!......Cliff

Thanks Cliff..I'm using a different launch technique that seems to help, plus a good burnout and the new et pros work well.I don't have an extreme range of 60's anymore..I used to just blow the tires off at times.I'm pretty happy getting in the mid 1.5's for a 60ft for a stock suspension car with just a set of cheap 3 way shocks.

Awesome job Ernie! The gains you made are extremely impressive and show your ability and patience when it comes to this fine tuning. I don't think there are many people that could pull off what you have done, kudos to you!

I found the ET Street Radials to be very difficult to hook up on cool/cold tracks, but they hook like racing slicks in the hot/humid months. The reason for this is that engine power is down some and the track is simply a LOT stickier.

Even then they require a LOT of burn-out and you've go to be all over them to keep the pressure right. Anyhow, nice to see that you could get it all together and bust into the 10's, keep up the good work!.....Cliff

Ultraflows are really good mufflers. Fairly quiet also. My 78 TA ran identical time/mph open headers to 3" Dr. Gas X pipe, 3" Ultraflows and 3" torque Tech tailpipes even with the extra weight of the system. Open header runs had no system behind it on the car at all.

Can't give u an exact rpm or distance...at the stripe I think I'm at a little over 5000rpm on the factory tach..I have no clue where I go into drive?Maybe 1/8 th mile...I focus on the tree and launch, check the tach shift, check the tach shift...watch for the pylons a the stripe and make sure I don't let up till thru..If I do a little math I could figure out where I go into drive...at 660ft 98 mph with a 3.08 gear and 28 tire..

My 78 weighs in at 3750 with me and Prostar wheels but to slow it down for the roll bar rule added the spare back in and DOTs on heavier 15x8 snowflakes. Unfortunately none of the tracks have had the scales on since I did that.

You are looking great!

Ernie, I'm sure you know there's an aftermarket air cleaner available, originally d signed by a member here, Larry Navarro. Branded WFO air cleaner, similar to stock set, made to be used with an open shaker. I bought one years ago, have not used it yet. I think Butler sells them if Larry doesn't. Larry?

Yes I owned one a few years ago.WFO is a good solution for the street. It helps to solve the magic trick trying to run a stock shaker on a Torker 2 with a one inch spacer. You eventually sacrifice filter size or have the filter top too close to the carb.

A few changes for next year starting with this.I'm also upgrading the rearend I'm leaning towards 3.42's which will still make the car very highway friendly but I'm not sure yet.

What camshaft are you using with your new motor?

Most likely sticking with the current cam.We will see what happens or what dumb idea I might have.Things have a tendency to snowball.

Roadpaver to the front. I remember Darby picking up with it. With that low 1st gearset and adding 3.42's you got the same combo.
