All I can say is 2 things, WOW! and you have more self-control than most people.

Cleaned the pistons and checked the ring grooves all looks OK. Dropped the crank into another block and spun it with a dial indicator. Looks like it's out by .001. I'll have it checked by the pro's before it goes back in. Rod bearings are nice too. Only thing out by a fair amount was the flywheel. It's an ATI SFI and pretty thick. Not sure if bolting the torque converter on would have straightened it. It's also out of round by about .010.

Self control? Maybe. Block was 5years old and **** happens to race parts. I'll never know 100% what happened, so no use to flip out. If it was a problem with the block, I'm sure they didn't know about it at the time. It's the way they handled the problem when they heard about it. I appreciate that. ... Eric.

Reading through all speculation posted so far, its clear that anything that affects/disrupts harmonic control can cause a failure of something that starts a chain of events that ends up ugly. |

yeah that sucks.... vibration, detonation, and harmonics can do lots of damage. Yes very lucky it didn't let loose going thru the traps.... I don't recall hearing about an aftermarket block cracking like this, like T.V. said (especially on #4??) well, now you can make that Bitchin Pontiac coffee table that everyone would love to have

I'm going to suggest that you solid mount the engine in one place only. Rear mid plate with flexible mountings front and at trans. You may be inducing some forces inthat block through chassis twist.

If something let loose inside the converter;an out-balance converter could wreak havoc at RPM; sending several tons of rotating Cf loads into the Rear main. Even losing one of the "converter bolts".
