Back in the days when I used to street race all chevy guys were running 4.10', 4.56', & 4.88's, never really heard 3.08's on a street strip chevy. Except 1, My friend had a nice 1970 nova, inski roller 396, 3.08's, that thing will run 13. Flat at 106 on street tires he beat alot of well built cars.

There will always be cars like yours being built.

There is A Single & Twin Turbo Revolution taking place right now.
1,000-2,000-4,000 Hp on the street.

The majority of street machines remain naturally aspirated by and large. Those with limitless budgets and tube chassis "street outlaws" style cars are definitely next level. But not all of us have the resources or time required to keep a beast like that going. I haven't pulled up next to a "ringer" like that in a few summers. But if I did, it sucks but it's bound to happen. Just like we can play sports with our kids or buddies and have a dam good time doing it, knowing full well we wouldn't hold a candle to the professionals or ones that live and breathe it if we had to compare.

I agree with you tho on the new era now with Hellcats out there everywhere. This has changed the game a lot now that your typical a-hole can just put drag radials on it and terrorize most anything on the street. Believe me, they are dying to spank us "old dinosaurs" at our own game as the ricers

I am an old Dinasour so to speak.
The Street Performace Single Turbo builds I have worked on so far are 600-650 Hp Theoretical baseline.
Mild cammed as many like.
Nice street manners.
Superb torque.

Feels 10-second fast on the street.
Likely 11.2-11.5 at track.

Lots of one off fabbing typical.

Yeah, I have to disagree that Pontiac's are the only brand that can 'do it', you guys must be in a different part of the country or something. Around here, there's everything, all have something fast.

Look at Buicks, 455s for starters, there's plenty of stout running GSs with the 3.08 type gear setups. Then there's the GNs, but we're talking about NA stuff for the moment, right?

Olds 455s, have to keep in mind, they are 4.25 stroke from the factory, and although you have to spend a little more on the heads, they can be every bit as fast as Pontiacs.

Fords, look at all the 460 combos out there, would be naïve to think they're not fast, and can't do it with highway gears, they have 557ci combos.

Mopars? They have had way better heads than Pontiacs for YEARS, and stroker 440 kits that are 505 and 535 just like Pontiacs, bigger too, and Indy heads rock.

My personal preference is BOPs, and I've been doing Pontiacs since the 70s. I like Pontiacs, and even if I'm slower, I'm basically going to 'do it' with a Pontiac.

Not knocking the accomplishments, but need to keep it in perspective.

The revolution is old, it started in the 90s. I remember this S-10 pickup with a 383 SBC that had an 88 on it, tubbed, guy drove it everywhere. Stupid fast.

Guys with the REALLY fast street cars, they don't talk, there's no need to brag, but if you show cash...

Agreed. Lots of fast cars of all makes. But I'd have to say in the last 10 years or so Pontiacs have risen to the top of the BOP heap mainly because of the continued developement of cylinder head and intake design and the availability of good con rods to add some higher RPM potential to the good low speed/midrange Pontiacs are known for. I see more Pontiacs at dragstrps now than Buick & Olds combined. Used to be more GTOs had Chevy motors but you rarely see that anymore.
I always root for underdogs anyhow. Getting ready to root on the Cavs against the Warriors and my other car is a 68 AMX. Can't get much more underdog than that.

"But I'd have to say in the last 10 years or so Pontiacs have risen to the top of the BOP heap..."

Also because many are willing to look past the 5000 rpm truck motor combinations !

Larger CFM Carb 950 should help.
If no gains look for less exhaust sytem back pressure tricks to try out then with Annular Booster 950 HP.

You still haven't hit the ceiling with that combo yet! I wonder if you can get close to 11 flat with your current cam, converter, and gear. On paper, a non Pontiac guy would say that you're under cammed/geared. Many other street Pontiac guys do the same thanks to repeated tuning, dyno or track outings. What does that say about Pontiac?!

TA Man could go to 3.42 gears and a little more stall like 3500-3800. Of course that means more traction would be needed. You're never done in racing and that's a good thing.

Why mess with a perfect street performance combo?

A 400 stroker with a 3-speed auto, doesn't get much simpler than that.

Runs 11.20s with 3.08 gears.

Great out on the highway and the track too.

Drive it anywhere, anyplace, any time.

Not many guys ever achieve this, hopefully more will carefully study this thread and follow suit.

This car is perfection.

Fyi, there are guys running well into the 10's with 3.42 gear, most likely would still run tens with 3.08.

Its Experimental Territory if he would like to purse 10's N/A with 3.08's.

3.23 , 3.42, 3,64( Old Buick GSX Gearset & Pontiac Fullsize 9.3 only), 3.73 & 3.90 would net easier results I think.

3.23& 3.42 fully streetable.
