My guess is that I bent mine for easier access to the spark plugs and header bolts.

Or access for valve cover removal?

Don't think I'm gonna deduct any points though, I'm guessing your engine compartment looks plenty nice despite the curvy leg, no pun intended

I thought the government had shut down the use of cadmium. Are there platers still using it?

Here's a nice factory bracket that I bead blasted and painted black (incorrectly) many years ago, I found it recently while digging through some boxes of '64 items. It was originally plated just like every '64 heater hose bracket I've ever come across, including the ones used on six-cylinder cars.

Cars equipped with A/C didn't use this bracket, the heater hoses were attached to the inner fender using a clip of sorts. Would be nice to see a picture of the correct clip.

Apparently there was 2 styles as Rich is showing the deep groove vs. Bman is not as deep groove . The one i have is like the 1 Rich posted & is clear zinc no signs of paint .

Agree, I have seen more "shallow groove" brackets vs the "deep groove" piece.

Not illegal but a recognized health hazard. Apparently still some things that are considered critical to plate with cadmium vs. zinc from what I once read.

Many have quit using cad, still some platers offering it around the country. I sent my stuff to Colorado Platers.

Hard for me to be sure and not here to check, but reviewing my pix, my hook seems only to have a raised ridge along each edge, no "valley" down the center between the edges.

b-man's has what looks like a shallow valley vs. Rich's has the deeper valley.

OMT's original pic is not real sharp, but might be the flat style like mine with the raised ridge along the edges. OMT, can you check or get a better pic?

I'll check again when mine comes back. Andre suggested two original styles, will be interesting to learn which two he has seen.

My Bracket looked like Pic #1 in my Post #8, basically flat with a very slight higher edge on each side of the bracket. Interested to see if Jim's looks the same.
Bart's picture of his bracket is almost a exact match except for the color.

That being said, the EBAY pic of the Hose Bracket for sale also has the curve in the body of the bracket, like Jim's posted pic. 4 different styles??

My bracket looks exactly like the one on E-bay, post #5 from Old Man Taylor. I clear zinced mine and looks pretty good.

I took these yesterday. It's kind of hard with everything assembled. However, it seems to me that I replaced this bracket with one from PY at one time so that I didn't have to clean up and paint/plate the old one. I went through my parts to see if I saved the old one, but I couldn't find anything.

HALFWAY, that is compelling evidence of original engine color paint on that hose bracket.

Do you know the Time Built code for the Lemans?

Gotta wonder if the Engine Assembly Plant started including the hose bracket as part of the engine assemblies as a running change resulting in them getting painted?

I'm doubting that if only because they would have to be removed for an A/C build.

Maybe they chopped a few cents off the cost by eliminating the plating and painting them instead, also as a running change?

Yours looks to have the same deep groove as Rich has, the one that is painted on his engine. So maybe his is correct after all.

The variations that are popping up here make it seem impossible to pin down what was correct when and where. Possibly different vendors for different Plants. Possibly the vendor was given the option of painting them Pontiac Engine Blue or plating them.

Wonder what original evidence the '64 big car guys would have? They were assembled at many more Plants.

Here is one on ebay right now, claims to be original with original "natural" finish.

Only one pic so can't tell if it has a deep, shallow, or no groove.

Posting the pic here to preserve the evidence.

This is turning into a real discussion on what was installed for sure.

Out of curiosity, anyone have a pic of the location of the hose on the inner fender? It's where mine is, but nothing is right on my car! (well, except that I love that little red-headed step-child!)

Tom, the Lemans was built in KS 3rd week of July 64.

I believe it was painted originally but I may have painted it again when I have the engine out almost 15 years ago. If I remember correctly I tried to keep the brackets the same color or bare metal look.

Anybody have any opinions on the Nut & Washer to attach the Heater Hose Bracket?

I'm planning to go with the internal toothed washer and plain nut as seen in the pic at Post #32 unless you guys believe something else is more "correct".

Regarding the A/C version of the heater hose bracket. Here's a pic of an original. The A/C had been removed from this car, making it easy to get a good picture of the bracket.

Here's a couple more pictures of an original bracket with all the A/C stuff in the way. It appears this bracket has been spread open too far.
