Don't think there floating, there's 300lbs on the seats 680 lbs open. Springs are new springs for solid roller .
These intake valves have been in these heads since day one, bought the head 2010 . I run real high boost and have recorded EGT's as high as 2000 degrees. So I think they fared quite well actually . Definitely not complaining about them . Im actually surprised they lasted this long.. lol. Third set of exhaust valves though... Guess they get more abused by the heat..
My cam and rollers look perfect.. No problem there..

Yes, Ferrea will sell directly to you as will Manley, however you will probably get a better price dealing with one of their vendors.

If you purchased the head new from Edelbrock, why would you question if the valves are from Edelbrock?

I bought this head from a Pontiac vender . Told him what I was doing and that's it,i got the head and never asked what valves was in it . So maybe he put his own valves in it? I don't know.. Maybe ill look at the rest of the valves and see if they have a number , I doubt it though...

So seems like a lot of the replies are for Ferrea here. Don't know much about valves , what's good or just ok , but was told that Inconel was the best to get for what im doing. Is the 6000 valve as good ? I have no clue ..

They are maybe a 1/2 miles from Keith Wilson's shop.

Keith Wilson, I am sure is a dealer for them. Obviously a very honest guy.
Could get you possibly a bit of a discount vs Ferrea and ship right out to you.
I would talk to the Ferrea guys though to get the exact valve you need no matter who you finally go through or purchase direct.

I don't know much about what valves I got , but my machinist said that the exhaust valves are of a odd size . He had to buy the valves and cut them down to fit the seat that where in this head.. ...

If the previous exhaust valves were 1.71" diameter and the seats cut for that diameter valve then your machinist would have had to do a similar machining operation to install your valves. I have 1.71" valves in a set of 72 cc heads done by Keith Wilson years ago.

Speaking of Keith Wilson and Ferrea Valve Guys. Probably not going to be taking calls or shipping valves as they are right in the middle of the 150 mph Hurricane at the moment.

I use Manley valves, they will make pretty much any size valve that fits a Pontiac head, Stainless and Super Alloy. Your cylinder head guy can specify a valve with all the details, create a blue print for re-orders in the future.

As stated here they are good people to deal with. They have off the shelf 6000 series for Edelbrock Pontiac heads or if interested a custom using their Super Alloy mentioned above. For my current application I had them make custom Competition Plus Hollow Stem intake valves with a 2.150" dia and a longer length for a 1.900" installed height.

Tom has provided you with needed info. Yes, they do sell direct. If he is available, one of the directors is Zeke Urrutia. He likes Pontiacs and knows us well. You could discuss your specific situation and ask for recommendations. Series 6000 stainless may be fine for your application, I just don't know. Super Alloy material is much more robust than their 6000 valves. But they are more expensive and very heavy. Would probably need more spring to work with them. In order to expedite your conversation he will want to know: Head diameters, stem diameters, face angle, overall length, distance from tip to keeper groove, radial or square keeper groove, hard tips or lash caps. With that info, he will be able to get you exactly what you want and fits your budget. Good luck.

I actually went down to my machinist today and ordered all the valves, intake and exhaust. Got the Manley Extreme duty series for the exhaust and the severe duty series for the intake.. Should work for what I need to do.......

Our first set of Tiger heads came with those same valves. No issues with them. Manley has good stuff too. As mentioned, have the spring situation looked at. That cracked old valve is a concern.

I would check the guides also as a valve rocking into its seat will make for very uneven loading and a nice pathway to broken valves!

All the guilds were checked and checked out to be fine. The valves were not floating either. The motor was running very good before this failure . Not one problem . The valve just was ready to fail.. Now I will have better valves and should be fine .. Those valves had a rough life and im happy that they lasted as long as they did..

A study of the valve crack under a microscope can reveal the crack propagation, and if it was based on an original material defect/ impurity (sulfide), a ding, or work-hardening.
