Still, more NA HP than any CV1 engine and very few NA High Port engines. We all would have been glued to our seat waiting how the new HP engine turned out. Very High effort, moved valves and big sheet metal ect. The Warp, kind of a who cares head to me. People run them and thats fine. They like them and do what they want. But its like having a BBC head strapped to your Pontiac with one hand tied behind its back(bore spacing) Extremely few get a chance to get their hands on them and do high end port work. RAVs? The cool and nostalgia factor is off the charts. Starting to see some promise with them. I am sure they will do well boosted. NA is king to me, that will be the tell. The dragster did show some power. Still a pushrod in the port so that is going to have to play out. They are going to make plenty of power, but will they get past the big bad Tiger NA ? I am waiting to see how the new Super Wedges do. Jeff told me they are back on the front burner. The Wilcox raised port/non pushrod in the port RAV is going to make a lot of noise. Best of all worlds while still being "sort" of a real Pontiac. Inline valves and standard Pontiac valve cover. No siamesed exhast. 520+ cfm baby. Kinsler still runs the E head and kicking but. Real drag racer too. There are FAR more E heads out there than any other aluminum head. They will always have a place. Basic aluminum RAIV head and good all the way to 1200HP NA. Hard to beat that. |

The Warp 6..........if it bolts to a Pontiac block....its a Pontiac head, for racers that want to qo quick! RA5.....just wait this WILL BE the next HOT head (520 cfm baby), push rod in the port (right Don )!Wilcoxs head.......maybe someday BUT its NOT a RA5 head and its VERY expensive who can afford it! Kinsler is fast with his NOS e headed missile.....thats one. Fulton ran quicker ditching the e head, so will Chief. E head is a dying head (time are a changing) thats why racers are switching because they want to go quicker. GTO George Last edited by GTOGEORGE; 09-27-2017 at 05:04 PM. |

Georgie, Mike made right at, just over, just under 1200 freaking HP. People ran the numbers on this site. Who cares how big the carb was. I am sure it was not small. He was clicking on your heels power wise without the big huffer. You are not the person to call into question what he did. Its fact, history, it happened.
The H&M head is less expensive than the Visners. You will see some big numbers coming out, and very low ones too. What, you can only call something a "RAV" if it has a pushrod ?, If its worse ? Dons head is a great head. And the pushrod in the port is the way he chose to build it. But in no way can any human tell me its better to have the pushrod in the port in any shape, way or form. I look forward to seeing some big things from Dons head by the way. The best way to sell a new head is take it to the track and lay down good numbers. I am sure he is well on his way to doing just that. Fulton, still has not answered his best CV ET. We all seen the 7.71 with old E heads Gach put up on U tube. Is 7.65 his best ET ? Was there a 7.57 I think I heard ? Did he give the Gabby 410 E heads a fair shot ? I heard he dynoed it with the same cam as his old heads. 40cfm more means new cam you would think. The intake was not as 'pretty" as say a Marcella intake. Chief, we will see if he actually runs the CVs or was just after leverage. The E head is in no way dying. It will be the most popular aftermarket Pontiac head till the end of time, period. The high end Pontiac race engine world is a very, very small one. Only to get smaller. The 500-600HP Pontiac street engine is a MUCH larger world. That is where the money is. Here is the issue with a aftermarket RAV head. If the whole deal costs way more. Have to use special headers, intake, cam ect and it does not make more power than a "normal" Pontiac head (Tiger, HP, Super Wedge) that is not a good thing as far as limited market share. If they dont, and the pushrod is in the port so that does come into question, make more power than a standard head then they have to rely on the "cool" factor. And who is to say a 900HP, 1000HP or 1200HP aluminum RAV under your hood is not a VERY cool thing. It is. The "special part" thing and not making more power than a "normal" Pontiac head is what turned the CV-1 into the extremely small market share it has. Have to run their intake, gaskets, valve covers, needs to be a reason its better. With the money you end up shelling out its MORE money. Has to be a reason to spend more money. |

RA5 heads has the pushrod going through the port.....plain & simple, if it doesn't its NOT! Ill bet you put the price of that H & M head and the price of Don's RA5 head the RA5 is cheaper! Normally when you step up to a BETTER flowing head (no matter what the head is) you get bigger headers......a bigger camshaft......carb/carbs......fuel pump....etc. the list never ends.......FACT! STOP crying Fulton ran quicker (making more HP) with a CV-1 heads and a HEAVIER car......FACT! The 800 - 1,000 hp Pontiac engine is not dying go to Norwalk (have you been to Norwalk)? My Gosh 500 race cars (year after year)....ill bet 15% maybe 20 % are quicker then 9's GTO George |

George with each post you are sounding more and more foolish.
Do you have inside information on Chiefs Car? Your heads flow more than Chiefs and you have no where near his 1/8 mile, he could let off when he runs out of gear and still run a 7 second pass with 350 cfm. Oh yeah the turbo is boring,LMAO, it makes street heads out run like a race car. You run a bracket car, nothing more boring than that! |

When you were a little kid, was an E head mean to you or something? You seem to be awfully angry at them.

Edelbrock has been selling heads now for what 25+ years. So I would suspect that they have the market share hands down. There is a place for specialty type heads though like the Warp 6, CV1, Tigers, and RA5's. They may not dominate the market, but we are not comparing apples to apples either. Edelbrock made it easy to swap out from the factory heads. These other heads are not easy or cheap. I can remember when Edelbrock first came out with their heads, and everyone bitched and cried like babies because they had to switch headers. Now it's common place. The new specialty heads will have their day in the sun. If you are a HP junky, you will want to move up the food chain eventually. I am partial to my RA5 heads though LOL.

I really feel if maximum HP is the goal, and you want to keep the engine "traditional", the Ram Air V configuration will get you there with more reliability than the conventional valve layout. There simply isn't enough real estate between cylinders to run big valves and have that huge heat concentration right in the center of the head. Combine that with an aluminum head and large space between fasteners and the head has no choice but to "hump up" between those center fasteners and eventually fail a head gasket. Again I will mention that we are still running the original pair of head gaskets we put on the engine in 2011. They have been on and off probably 20 times. Same 10 head bolts. The valve layout is brilliant. Hate to admit the design came from Ford, but it works.
