Yeah, I ran across a photo like that myself. Maybe this one?

I think the stripe and the wheel look great on that car.

I've only seen a few cars with these stripes, but thought they were kind of neat because they're different.
So now that my car has been brought back from the brink after 34 years, I figured I'd try them...but I was hesitant to have them painted since I wasn't sure how they'd look. So I opted to go with auto parts store 'tape' first to make sure that I actually liked them. Since it's $10 cheapo pinstripe, it's not exact to the factory specs, but it does give you an idea, which was all I wanted. I know the placement is probably off a little bit though. Jury is still out, but I do kind of like the way it looks with them. I'm going to leave it as-is for now until I decide if I want to make this permanent with paint. |

Greg,
This is how I read the assembly manual drawing. |

That's the same way I see it Charles. I was just a little hazy on whether that 'Bottom' line was .120 or .180.

This forum is awesome! I was looking for info and a member directed me here and I have spent the last few days finding everything I was looking for.
I am a long ways from finishing restoring my 69 GTO but one of the options listed is D98 accent stripe (Tape). The car was painted in the early 70’s so have no idea what it originally looked like. I had assumed it was the judge stripe and was thinking it would look good. So not as excited about this pin stripe but we’ll see if it goes back on. Cameo white with red interior and wire wheel hub caps. Would it look good or not?? Safe to say the accent stripe would of been red and tape not painted? |

The pin stripes were painted by the factory. I’m honestly not crazy about the look of those stripes. I had a liberty blue 69 ragtop that had them.
I’d buy a set of the typical tape pinstripes at an auto parts store to test if you like the look or not. Given your car s color scheme I’m sure they were red.

Ram Air decals were white, red or black from the factory.

I've never seen it. Cool picture!
I wonder how much product placement marketing went on back in the 60's on shows like this.

A bunch! 'I Dream of Jeanie' used new Pontiacs, Bewitched used new Chevies, I think 'My Three Sons' also had Pontiacs? 'The FBI' and 'Andy Griffith Show' used Fords and I think there were quite a few more..

My 3 Sons did use Pontiacs. Beverly Hillbillies used Chrysler products.

The car lot I worked for in high school in 1977 had a similar nightshade 68. Never knew what the color was called. This one had white interior, hideaways, and a T400.Fell in love with GTO's after that.

Nightshade with White/Parchment interior would have been Sweet !
Have only seen a couple of good pictures of any Nightshade cars at all. Very rare color for 68. They (pontiac) actually called it Nightshade Green .... but its a Grey/Pewter color all day and all night to me. orange was red , yellow was orange , they were nuts sometimes. |

I didn't think about it happening retroactively in the 60's but it makes sense. Jane Hathaway could have just rang Jeds door bell, she's didn't have to pull up in a new car
