Z4,
Thanks for your comments!
Got some more done today and yesterday on both front fenders. Passenger side was perfect, but the drivers side needed a little attention...
Instead of replacing just a small patch, I instead purchased a complete bottom of the fender-minus the brace. It was still good. Did the cutting and replaced the patch and welded things into place...
They are now ready for a coat of etch primer....Forward Progress...

Fun times yesterday with an 8" DA Sander. Top is done along with the trunk...
Will get photos of the trunk....
Hood and doors are next.....That hood has some real estate on it...

Keep up the good work!!! It is a motivator for me to keep plugging away at my project as well especially over the winter.

I just thought I was done with the top and the trunk. Went over the top again and now it's ready for etch primer...
The trunklid, I discovered, has some rot above the bottom panel. It's not real bad, but bad enough I don't want it on my LeMans. I ordered a new replacement from Tamraz. This one will see eBay some time in the future along with all the "other" parts I no longer need....
Reinstalled the tank after painting the underside of the trunk floor. Put some gas in her and hit the starter.....Four turns of the key and.... Music to my ears!

Blu Bi Yu Thanks you both for your comments!...
We worked yesterday on finishing the trimming of the right rear wheel house and securing the left rear wheel house, and etch primed in being ready for the final install of the Left Rear Quarter today...
Then it will be time to move forward, removing both doors and stripping them to the metal.....
Sounds like a plan to me!...

Default Big Progress this Week

I made some huge progress this week on the '71 LeMans...
Now have both rear quarters installed and welded. We need to adjust the "corners" of each side...
We are test fitting the rear bumper again and with some adjustment, it will look GREAT!.
After it's final fitting, I will install the rear valance and weld the tabs on each quarter...

STILL STOKED!!...

We are trying our best to get her finished...

Yesterday I spent the day sanding the hood of the old paint and primer. She looks pretty good for a 1971. I have looked several places for a replacement 1971 LeMans hood....Not to be found....Thank goodness mine is is good shape.
I have found that from the doors forward, new (repopped) parts simply don't exist for this LeMans....

I did however find a new bumper for the car in case I don't want to use my original....
Oh Well?....Who said restorations are easy! Not me!

Had time yesterday to get most of the paint and primer off the hood to find it is in good shape. Today I spent time in the booth finishing sanding/scotch bright all the corners and crevices. It is now ready for Etch Prime. Tomorrow I'll get started on the doors...

Yesterday I had the time to finish the underside of the hood, which BTW, turned out to be a SOLID hood!....
She also spent the day in the sun as we needed the space to work on other projects in the shop...
Gettin' Closer by the minute!..

Nice! Glad you got good news on the hood.

Stripping the underside looks like a pain. How did you do that?

Time...lots of time...I used a 4" DA sander with 36 and 80 grit. Finished up with a 6" DA sander with 80 grit.
