Has the BHC for the OP's car been posted yet? Really curious if the engine unit number is WSxxxx.
If so, then that would match what I have seen on other HO cars. For whatever reason, the HO cars had the WS followed with 4 digits for the EUN while the base and RA engines had the 6 digit EUN.....or 6 zeros.

CarsInBarns posting about this car stated 2000+ Chrome Nose GTO in 68
2107 or 2108 or somewhere around there.
i thought it was less , but they are probably right.
It's not a number i keep up with.

A guy local to me had a Red/White Int. HO/WS 4spd Chrome Bumper GTO for a while.
Matching # car with some nice options and rebuilt engine.
Paint & Body didn't turn out too great and he sold it a few years ago unfinished.

I don't believe the actual blocks have the eun as WSxxxx or 000000
At the time of of the BHC they didn't have the actual eun to print on it.
Or in the case of the WSxxxx, they just had the general range of the eun - 3920xx (sitting in engine carts) for the example BHC.
(they knew the WS would be installed)

The owner of that car sold it before I could get there so I never got to see the block stampings. I think I have seen 3 or maybe 4 BHCs with the WSxxxx listen in the engine number box. Might just be the way it was done at one of the assembly plants....more examples of BHCs with similar listings would help.

Numerous irregularities in BHC/EUN criteria from a few plants - in 1968.

Baltimore and Framingham [GTO] were the 000000 specialists
Van Nuys [Bird] 000000 also
The WSxxxx would have been a flukey Fremont Deal

All these cars/engines would have had a normal 6 digit EUN.
Anywhere from 20,000 to 50,000 digits lower than the Invoice Number
Don't know how or why they got by with the goofed entries.

The billings weren't created until the cars were completely built and ready to expedite.

Mike , does anyone have access to Hamilton's registry ?
Did some googles last night and came up with more Red Paint 68 Chrome Nose cars than all others combined.
Doesn't equate to them actually being Factory Red and Factory Chrome or even Factory GTO , but has me curious what the Registry would reveal.

671 Lamp-Underhood + 674 Chrome Nose = 675

And i screwed up calling it a WS car
it was a YZ Automatic HO [rpo 348 with 351 trans]

Congrats on a great find! I’ve got an endura delete car and for over 20 years I’ve seen sources like High Performance Pontiac list the number to be 2,108 total.

There are two types of these cars; special paint cars that required the chrome bumper, and buyers who chose an RPO color but requested the chrome bumper.

Being a 69 guy my knowledge of 68's is sketchy. When was the (or was it) endura delete option cancelled?

There were only a few pictures on craigslist and short information.

That was basically what was stated on the listing - but we see a lot of initial claims that don't pan out all the way.
Especially concerning original engines.

That was a great deal and Windward is a nice color.
The large majority of Chrome Nose cars were Special Paint - just from my own observations/findings.
I have not seen the Registry that Mike mentioned.
Only seen a couple/few that were NOT special paint.

Seems like the total production of Chrome Nose is known.

Hey thanks Baron! Yes, Barnfinds.com picked up the story from the craigslist ad and then Fox and Drive.com picked it up. It had a color change from the original color when it was painted but it's a straight solid car. I didn't anticipate having to do a total restoration and I don't think the previous owner knew either with it being in storage so long. It's all good though as I now have a very cool car!! I have quite a bit of work ahead of me but I'm totally set to do it. 2 years ago I did the same thing with a 66 396 Caprice that turned out badass. I did quite a bit of research the 2 nights before I pulled the trigger so I'm fairly familiar with the chrome nose bumpers and the special order paint. That was part of the original hesitation as I couldn't find Windward Blue in 68 until I found the 68 Spring Color Card and even then any search for a Windward Blue 68 GTO came up with nothing. So in the decision making process, I found a 69 Judge and of course, 69 Firebirds, as this color was on the 69 Firebird color card. Some Firebirds in certain light looked like the color of my car in those dusty storage photos and the previous owner told me it was. I looked at probably a thousand pictures and determined it was too close to call and purchased the car anyway. I found out rather quickly when I opened the storage unit and went over the car and found a chip with the original color underneath. I went in to this search looking for a clean driver and came out with a pretty rare project. Here are some of those papers you were looking for relating to the car. PHS billing history and options list, Original Window Sticker , Original Build sheet pulled from the tank in 1975. Pretty cool stuff!!

I believe 1968 was the only year you could get a chrome bumper
