After several very knowledgeable cylinder head experts reviewed these heads, including Dave Wilcox and another Mountain Motor Pro Stock competitor that creates his own castings and billet blocks/heads/intakes. Everyone loves these heads! I heard many times that this or that was nicer/better than Edelbrock.

Not bashing Edelbrock. Nothing but respect for all they have done for the hobby.

I now have a bare head and a pair of complete heads and thanks to Mike, a cut up early Edelbrock to compare. Time to fire up the saw and let the slicing begin!

We will also bolt the complete as cast set on the 400 and test them on the 220" Dyno. There are many gain to be made on the as cast set but we want to test them "right out of the box". We may touch a few things up later as most of you would undoubtedly do, but we want to show results of a virgin set first.

Why destroy a brand new $700+ head? Because we want to offer our customers Quality and Affordable Reliability. I have more slicing to do and will be publishing the results in an upcoming magazine article.

So far these heads are exceeding expectations and that's exactly what we want to do.

While I would like to see a thicker deck surface, there is nothing wrong with the casting quality in that head!

While I guessed at the deck possibly being 1/2" or so, it's actually the same 5/8" as an Edelbrock.

Looks like plenty of meat above chamber at exhaust. I'm wanting to know just how much the chambers can be opened up.

Good! If you consider the reactivity of aluminum with coolant, a thicker deck ensures your ability to mill the deck without losing strength. Head gasket life with these heads(when proper finish requirements are complied with) should be excellent.

This means you'll need to wait until Thursday or Friday when my new sharp band saw blade arrives! Intake section is next. I want to cut the entire deck off and expose that section view too.

I met with a gentleman last weekend that builds his own blocks/heads/intakes in both cast and billet and runs competitively in Mountain Motor Pro Stock. Great things are on the horizon!

Not going to happen unless they are cast overseas at any price close to what the other brands go for.
A RAV block would not be a bad starting point.
Or make one with a deck that looks like a PMD block, sbc style lifter valley with about .125 more meat around the lifter bores, mains are the same thickness as the current aftermarket blocks, extra rib down the pan rail like a 59 block,duel bell housing pattern, siammesed bores. And priority main oiling like a BBC.

That ought to do it !

If they are cost prohibitive to go with the same grade iron as the IA1-MR1 then at least as good a grade as the PMD Ram Air blocks would do the job.
