Here is my two cents for what its worth. I moved from the city to upstate and I need a 4 wheel drive truck, but didn't have spare money at that time because of the new house I was building .I was looking at the blazer at the time and I was a big GM guy. So along came a smoking deal for a Bronco 11. The Bronco came with more opitions then Chevy so I bought the Ford hoping it would be OK. 3 or 4 trouble free years and then I was in a real bad accident with the truck. I walked away without a scratch. I then bought a new Mazda, witch was a re-badge. explorer with a better warranty . The I had a head on accident with that truck and I also walked away un-hurt. I have been Buying Ford and Lincoln trucks ever since. Then I was looking to buy a G8 GXP when GM killed off Pontiac. I say no more GM's for me and I when out and bought a SRT Challenger. When I was back in the market for a new truck, Ford replaced there Explorer from RWD to fwd. RE-body Mini van, and that was now out . So I bought a Land Rover sport and a VW Touareg v8 SUV.
I need a low gear for down hill in ice, I'm 750 ft up hill. My pickup trucks are f150's. Ive always worked on Ford and GM trucks and the Fords were all made much more beefy then the GM's. Now Ford just went back to RWD on the Explorer for 2020 and you can get one with a Twin Turbo and 410 HP. Might be my next SUV

Interesting how this thread got off topic real fast. in the end life is interesting because we all have differences of opinions. If we thought alike what a boring world we would live in.

32 years ago, I'm sure your wedding vows read something like this:

You didn't plan on getting Leukemia any more than I planned on getting cancer. It happens to the best of us. It doesn't make us less of a person.

It also doesn't mean you have to be subservient to your spouse.

When you get married, there is not supposed to be "your money" and "my money" any more. It's supposed to be "our money" and both partners should have equal weight on decisions made.

For decades, I made much more than my wife. Now she makes much more than I do. I chose to semi retire and enjoy a 24 hour work week, partially as the result of 3 cancer operations. Our financial decisions are, and always have been, joint decisions.
