Formulajones,
Oh...it doesn't matter to YOU. You're not involved in this. You have chosen to involve yourself as a cheerleader. It certainly matters to me. It doesn't matter to me if you are wonderng why we're still talking about it. In order for guys to make a fair assessment, everything now has to be disclosed. You can just wave off the history and problems with this motor because I'm really not paying attention to much of what you're saying because you're defending...not contributing. |

If you think it's not contributing then you're definitely not listening.
You don't seem to realize what you're doing isn't helping. You're worried about a distributor bushing from 6 months ago that's already been fixed, instead of dealing with the current issue. Get the timing set!! Lets keep moving forward instead of making 10 more pages of dwelling on the past. All of us will benefit from that. |

Formulajones,
Let your ego comprehend this for a minute...I don't want or need your help. I'm asking help from guys that are willing to help me that are not programmed to defend anyone. See...you've become a distraction. If you would like to have a phone conversation, I'll PM you my number. Feel free to call me. |

![]() You should consider yourself lucky you're even getting help here. If the good people here knew how you acted and carried yourself off this forum, I doubt you'd get much help at all. |

Formulajones,
Stop cheerleading. Umm...I've spoken to a majority of the people that comment on here. They've seen the texts that I've received during this build. I think a lot of guys would be surprised what I've dealt with as well! You're not as respected here as much as you think or want to be. Last edited by Va68goat; 07-17-2019 at 10:08 PM. |

I'm not here for respect, couldn't care less what people think about me.
I simply enjoy the good people here, and the dozen or so people I've met from the forum have become really great friends. Those that have met me in person know what kind of person I am and that I don't hide behind the keyboard like most pretending to know something, and the ones that get upset because they don't want to hear what I have to say apparently have a chip on their shoulder. Either get over it or block me. I don't care. But it's all good, you're entitled to think what ever you want, take it or leave it. It's really no skin off my back. |

I've built and ran a lot of these motors over the years and I'm confident the bushing on the dist did not get damaged by the oil pickup issue. Other parts in the motor would have ceased up and killed it before it probably would do any significant damage to that bushing.
As someone noted, it would quickly trash the bearings , crank/rods. As I described previously, when a motor gets put on a dyno, oil pressure and all that other stuff is monitored closely. I have no doubt as soon as they saw oil pressure go, tapping started and it was shut down immediately. Unfortunately when this happens builders know to pull the plug, nothing more to do than tear it back down as it needs a minimum of bottom end re-work with bearings, turning and cleaning up the crank, etc. I would also mention that what happened with the pickup falling off is rare and unfortunately humans are involved in assembling these engines. This is totally dumb luck that it happened to you and I'm sure the builders are just upset, if not more upset about this happening on their watch. Based on what you said, they took care of everything when this happened and I assume the only impact on that first engine is it significantly delayed getting your motor back to you. As mentioned previously, you made a wise decision to pay to have it dyno'd. it's a test for many things including the aw sh!t things.... And it was found before it shipped back to you and you installed it cause that would have really sucked! Based on the last video, there were a few signs that definitely point to pre-ignition. I hope you went down to your local auto parts store and picked up a dial back timing light. They're not that expensive and it's an important tool for you to have if you are going to have a muscle car. I understand all of this is probably gnawing at your brain to understand all the impacts. But I'm sure the motor is brand new inside (hopefully no damage caused by it being run with too much advance in the distributor) and it will live a long life if you tune it. I've rambled enough and hope this helps. |

torqhead,
Thanks for the info..That was helpful. I'll be buying a timing light after it gets timed tomorrow. Gnawing is an understatement...hahaha. It's frustrating because I have no experience with with these old cars and having to depend on friends becomes a burden. I'll be buying a lot of beer at the conclusion of this! |

This is precisely why I decided to find someone local. I would say if there was a problem on the Dyno I would not have paid for any of the repairs and I probably wouldn’t have paid for the second set of repairs either. As far as your engine being held hostage a call to the state attorney generals office would have cured that.

Not sure how this situation is usually handled when an engine has issue at the dyno from improper assembly that damaged parts. If the pick up tube fell off and damaged parts on dyno, why were you charged for new parts? Is there some type of warranty? The issue was not your doing so why did you have to pay for that mistake?
Also wanted to add. I was talking with my engine builder last month when my motor was on the dyno. Some how the subject of the "pick up tube falling off" came up. He told about a situation that happen on his motor at the quarter mile track. He lost oil pressure during a 1/4 run, when he got it apart, he found the oil pump tube laying in the pan, said all the bearing looked fine. So not sure that much damage could be done with missing pick up tube. He also runs a MSD and it was not damaged either. So sorry to hear about the issues. No good for anyone. Hopefully someone can show you the basics(adjusting timing, setting idle on carb) and this motor sorted for you. |

64speed,
I wouldn't do this again. No way. I didn't have to pay for the damage when the motor failed / blew up (whatever). There is no doubt that when the motor was recently shipped back to Koerner Racing Engines, they billed me for money that they lost before (They had to makeup for a crankshaft, bearings, 2 rods, gaskets etc). I have a text that was sent to me from Paul that said every time my motor went back to the dyno, it cost them $500.00. The motor was run on the dyno 4 times. Do I really think they paid $2,000.00 to the dyno shop to run my motor...come on! I may be new to cars but I'm no fool. Of course I will be described as rude or difficult to deal with but I think anyone would be mad if they had to deal with this crap. Describing me as "Difficult", "Rude" or even a pain in the ass is an attempt to distract people from the facts that have occurred. I paid the ransom money to get my motor back because my concern was that after seeing how they dealt with this problem, I was concerned they would put a mechanics lien on the motor if I didn't pay it! Here is the "Invoice" that I received describing what I was being billed for. I told them that I didn't want to run the motor on the dyno because if they fixed the problem, it shouldn't have a problem. I guarantee that they didn't get charged for the dyno but they wanted to make up the money. Jeff told me that he wasn't going to release the motor until it was run in on the dyno because he wanted to ensure the motor wasn't knocking. Again, I know Ol' Forumlajones will describe how horrible I was to deal with but yet the only person he was spoken to is Paul and Jeff. The more Formulajones rants about how difficult I am, the more I am willing to post screenshots of the texts that I received from Paul and Jeff and I guarantee they DO NOT want anyone to see that. Paul...you better talk to Formulajones! Last edited by Va68goat; 07-18-2019 at 09:56 AM. |

455GRIN,
I appreciate the comments. This whole thing has been a bad experience but it's not over yet! I want to concentrate on getting this motor right...that's my first priority! |

I don’t know how it works there but in SC you call the Attorney Generals office and make a complaint. SC is a VERY consumer friendly state. The AG usually sides with the customer and the Sheriffs Office goes out and claims the property. I have probably served 300 or more claim and delivery orders but only one lien paper.
