My friend who owns 3 body shops had a 65 Lemans and he painted it black cherry metallic. In most light you could not see the cheery. In sunlight it just exploded in it.You have to see your color in person in good light IMO.Tom

I have been riding thru car lots and looking at cars when they are closed so I don’t get attacked by sales people. I found two nice Chevy colors on trucks but I don’t know how the one I really like would look on a car. It’s kind of that metallic charcoal blue

I've seen that soul red on a friend's mazda, it's very pretty.
Hijack back on topic; What do these upgraded boxes do, that is so great?

The Borgeson is supposed to be the best for rack and pinion feel without rack and pinion. They have a very good reputation, they are not astronomical, and the company HQ is right here 45 minutes from me. I bought it from a place called Yogis but I called Borgeson directly to ask questions and told them it would be years before I used it and they said whatever if I didn’t like it bring it back

I have been quietly following this thread every few days, and I have to say, I do not fully understand the level of frustration being levied toward 64speed. If he is being chastised for splitting hairs and protracted decision making, others in this thread should be recognized for unwarranted pettiness. It reflects poorly on those involved.
Let's take a moment to remember that the purpose of these forums is to exchange ideas and information, and to connect over a shared hobby. And there is nothing compelling any of us to respond to any given thread. If you are frustrated by something, let others respond. There are enough stressors in today's world to think about.

I really like my Lares box and I REALLY like how inexpensive it was. What it doesn't do however is provide rack and steering "feel." There's still way too much pressure in the system and you're still splitting the torque 90 degrees, then sending that motion through several different parts that all have their own tolerance stack in them. You still lack the on-center feel and linearity of movement that you get with a rack and pinion. Once you understand that a steering box can't overcome the inherent issues with being a steering box and thus temper your expectations, you can start seeing the benefits. With new components and modern valving, the dead spot on-center starts to reduce. The over-assisted feeling, especially at speed goes away. The quicker ratios allow you to point and maneuver the car easier. What these updated boxes are really great at IMHO is increasing level of confidence with what the car is doing and how it behaves when you make inputs. Couple it with a good steering wheel that fits well in your hand and is of a practical size for what you want to do and it's really a great upgrade to these old cars. When doing the box, for maximum effect you should consider a steering linkage rebuild, to include steering knuckle ball joints as well as either a refresh/rebuild or new power steering pump that provides the amount of pressure the box wants/needs. A new tight box won't overcome sloppy steering parts and won't function properly with a failing or under-performing pump.

We all share a common passion and other than some of us who have pictures up I bet if you put us all at a car show we would get along cause nobody would recognize anyone. It was not now nor ever been my intention to sew discord on this site. I come here for answers and that’s it. Sorry if you don’t like that I don’t always take any individuals particular advice or that I change my mind. I am building the Pontiac I always wanted. If that doesn’t align with what you would build I’m sorry but I still respect your build. I have changed my mind on this project many times but I have never misrepresented what I was doing, I may have just done it poorly.

On a side note I have looked at a million images and videos and cruised some car lots while my wife had her endoscopy today. While I am going with black interior because the blue Tempest interior is hideous I will be sticking with my first love the silver mist gray. I know what it looks like, I know it looks good and it reminds me of my first Pontiac
