That would be really kicking some serious butt , if they can grow it out like that.
Revolutionary ! Everybody swaps out to aluminum pump gas hi-flow that look stock. |

This really could be revolutionary. If these heads have equal or better performance than Edelbrock or KRE, and they can produce them in sufficient numbers, and the price is also competitive, why would you buy anything else? I'm not saying I think you'll really fool anyone, but it is a cool idea and they look nice even though you can still tell they're not factory.

I don't think its market needs to have 300+ cfm heads or compete with existing brands.
Maybe the roundports towards that range. Then CNC options for gang busters. I'd rather pay less , and just get useable flow numbers for hot street / hot restoration cars. Anything much above your cid and cam profile requirements is not productive - its just sales hype. 30-50 cfm over stock configurations would be happy spots especially if way more price friendly than the leading brands. That would be similar performance to paying big bucks for skilled porting an iron head. Those brands will be there , and guys who really need 300+cfm @ .500 can always buy those. But however it shakes out is the way it will be. The big performance and race market is already saturated. The rest of us keep waiting and running iron. |

A 250 cfm aluminum head costs the same to cast and machine as a 320 cfm version so I wouldn’t be too hopeful that somehow there will be a less expensive aluminum street head because they’re not flowing big numbers.
I’d be happy the potential is there, just put in a milder cam and take advantage of the big head flow without the need for a radical cam. Cheap top quality aluminum or for that matter iron heads ain’t gonna happen.

Another high priced high flowing head is just more saturation of a saturated market.
He will just be dividing a share of an existing saturated market. A new market reach would be an exclusive territory. I'm hoping/thinking Don may have observed other discussions to get the gumption to go after this. |

I wonder if Dart or Brodix ever think they misjudged the Pontiac market.

I don't think so. I talk to all the big players every year at PRI and push Pontiac stuff of course. Brodix and AFR have less than zero interest in the "legacy platforms", Pontiac included. Indy Cylinder heads had some passing interest for a couple years, but they have changed ownership and have no interest now. Profiler Inc., which is 20 miles from my house, had some interest and they were even willing to talk about Ram Air V stuff 20 years ago. But never got past the talking stage. They make beautiful castings with a unique plaster molding process. Don Johnson has an existing relationship with a quality foundry. That makes this effort particularly exciting.

Let’s face it the majority here are skittish about spending 2 to 3 grand or more for a pair of quality aftermarket aluminum cylinder heads. Let’s hope the Pontiac faithful open their wallets for Don and his new cylinder head endeavor, after Edelbrock is done he’s going to be one of only two or three players in this game for street heads.

Btw.... When I referred to Brodix and Dart I had the original founders in mind. This industry is in trouble. It's being taken over by white collar investment firms that don't care about anything but bottom line profits and couldn't come up with a good idea if their life depended on it. |

little oval pockets that accept token-like castings with raised numbers? On Sunday he had a pair of 13s, today they're small valve 17s?

That'd be a good idea, one could have a tall boss and just mill the numbers you want. You can see the 48's are on a plate, I was just thinking you could install what ever numbers you wanted. That's how the reproduction HO/RA manifolds were done..... I like your idea better and it'd save the wait time.

Unfortunately, the majority of Pontiac people want Brodix quality at Speedmaster prices. That’s never gonna happen.
Don’s RA V heads are really nice heads. I’m sure these will also be excellent heads at a fair price. But not cheap.

So, according to the video linked in post 35, he hopes to price these at $3200/pr, but subject to change depending on final machining costs. Sounds fair for 300-320 cfm

His heads will shake up that end of the market really good.
Edelbrock and Kauffman will definitely feel his presence. He's put a lot of smart stuff into them. |

Edelbrock heads have been life-changing for the Pontiac crowd, but let's not forget that they're owned by investors now who could easily decide to drop them.

Comments indicate he’s working on, or will be, RAIV intakes. If that comes to pass, and they’re as good as what it seems his other stuff is, thatll end the back and forth about the current ones for sale. If he does do them, wonder if an option for port injection bosses would be on the table?
