The third party, Caramel, handles the entire transaction. They receive the funds from the buyer. Then the seller sends the title to Caramel. The seller signs a power of attorney for Caramel. Caramel receives the title and transfers it to the buyer. I assume the buyer also gives POA to Caramel. I didn't understand why our signing the title should matter. Maybe because we couldn't be present at the DMV? Missouri DMV also said there shouldn't be a problem. It all would have worked just fine if they would have given me explicit instructions immediately. I own not reading and seeking understanding of the process. Lesson learned.

I recently bought a wrecked 2013 Camaro SS through Ridesafely. Ridesafely is a broker. They purchased from Copart on my behalf. Caramel should take some pointers from them. They were very thorough in leading me through the entire process. They had a checklist to make it very clear. Each point turns green when it's completed in sequence.

They pay 50% immediately when the vehicle ships. The other 50% when they get the title. I didn't like that much. But I screwed up and wanted to do right by the buyer. He was very nice and patient fortunately. All's well that ends well I guess. I would sell there again. Hope that all makes sense. Feel free to ask me anything about it.

When selling through BaT. Are you required to have a 3rd party handle the transaction? I have sold several vehicles on eBay and have always handled it directly.

Last transaction on BaT was direct with the buyer; he paid - I sent signed title.

I think he mentioned their secure checkout was optional.
Probably instills a little more confidence to out of state buyers who are doing no-touch sight-unseen purchases and using transport services.

I think even if you select to offer it as the seller - the buyer can still make other satisfactory arrangements , or do everything in person.
Sounds like an escrow type scenario overall.

Could be good in certain arrangements.

As far as signing the title goes... The rules vary so much state to state, I think they just want the unsigned title, and POA, to make sure everything goes smoothly. Here in PA a signed vehicle title is worthless unless it's notarized. If you sign it then go try to get it notarized afterwards, not going to happen unless the notary is friendly.

They dropped the notary requirement in MO many years ago. Decades ago I think.

That's an beautiful example of one of my favorite cars. I'm sure you will do well with it. Expect a full on interrogation from all the Alfisti that will get notified when it hits the site. Auctions there seem to do better when the seller is fully engaged with the comments. Which on cars like yours may get above 100.
Having a driving video where the car is being driven enthusiastically will get folks excited about your car. Just driving thru town in traffic recording it on a cell phone won't that that crowd enthused. The world is jaded from all the car ads on TV showing professional drivers doing what your never supposed to do with their cars.

The world certainly has changed when it comes to buying/selling collector cars. Gone are the days where I waited anxiously for the Auto Trader to hit the stands so I could drive all over the state looking at mostly junk. No internet back then. However there is something to be said about looking the owner in the eye and asking questions as well as a test drive.

I have purchased vehicles from the internet and for the most part been happy. Usually I have long conversations over a period of days/weeks to "get a feel" about the seller and car.

I have seen a huge shift towards auctions both internet and live. I can see why. For a seller they have a much larger audience and in the case of a live auction a large audience of buyers. As a buyer you have a large selection and everything is for sale. No driving all over the place to be dissapointed or deal with less than honest people.

I wish there was a place where folks could "trade" cars. Avoiding all the fees/hype/costs associated with auctions. More than a few people own collections (from several to hundreds) and may be looking for something they don't have. I have owned over 36 Pontiacs over the years and generally keep a car for several years before looking to move into something else. I do have one or two cars I have held for quite sometime.

I am in the market right now for a high profile car and have been "searching" all the usualy places. For the most part you are dealing with car dealers or consignment dealers. Very few individuals listing online anymore. In my opinion all these "middle men" just drive up the cost.
