Over the years I've built a bunch of modified exhaust systems, the H pipe is what I've found takes away the annoying tones, and crackling. The crossover pipe needs to be smaller diameter than the exhaust pipes in my experience.

I've never had drone with an H pipe, but have had it with separate right, and left systems using generic turbo mufflers.

H pipe also adds to low end, and mid-range power in my experience.

From the mangled header test that was done on the dyno that showed virtually no difference, I fail to see how a dent, of flat spot in a tail pipe is going to significantly affect a street exhaust system on the butt dyno.

Tail pipes also eliminate the resonance off of the trunk sheet metal that turn downs at the rear axle seem to cause.

My Magnaflows sound good with the X and considering they are 3 inch they are relatively quiet. We will see how it does with the 2.5 after muffler pipes

Everyone is gonna say I’m crazy but here’s what I did. Rather than crush bend pipe to go over the axle the muffler shop cut them off and put turn downs on it facing the wheels kinda. It is no louder in the car going down the road and only slightly louder at a red light. It’s not perfect but it will do for now. I sent Grivera a video if he wants to chime in. Best part is I gained 6 inches of ground clearance in the middle.

No bueno.

Carbon monoxide is not your friend nor should it be taken lightly.

Think about why all cars have tailpipes.

If they could do it automobile manufacturers would’ve put turndowns on everything and you know why they don’t.

It’s not a permanent solution but it will do for now

It all made sense when you looked at the exhaust.
There was a muffler and nothing after that. A turn
down would've been a major improvement.

How long does a non-aluminized exhaust system
typically last? Doubt AMD went above and beyond
with 304 SS for it's replacement body panels...

See above post. Also I bet that truck didn’t have a layer of rustoleum covered with rubberized undercoating. This is not a permanent solution. I literally could not service my shocks. I have kids I have to buy Christmas for. This will go plenty long enough till I decide to do something else.

I still wanted to see a pic of how the tailpipe blocked shock access, that would have been key to determine the problem.

I don't see a vid either.

Default No tunnel modifications required

Also the Canton dipstick may not work so if anyone knows a Lokar flexible that will thread into the oil pan I would appreciate the info. Plus I need a clutch pushrod that is longer than 7 inches. Other than that I am exhausted.
Looking to get clear on a TKO 600 being installed in a 64 A body and not requiring any tunnel mods. Realize this was early in your build and with over 2000 posts to this thread you may have determined that you did need to modify your tunnel in order to get the proper pinion angle. Which cartoon closely resembles your pinion angle.

I had all new body bushings so no sag. I didn’t have to modify my tunnel at all it went right in. The only thing I can tell you is that you may need adjustable uppers in the rear because I did. My driveshaft is between 1-2 now.

The way I understand it, the top example (low strain, no vibe) causes single point wear in the u-joints. I'd pick "moderate strain, minimum vibe where the angles are the same on both u-joints.

I've seen the results of almost no angle on the U joints, because the needles never rotate, they form grooves in the cross, causing play even when fully lubricated. Ideally slight angle will cause the needles to move, and wear all the components evenly.

I'd choose #2 myself.

Back on the topic of sourcing replacement tailpipes that are mandrel bent, I was very pleased with the tubing kit made by Flowmaster that I installed in my '66. You can buy just the tailpipe section from many vendors.

Do you have a picture of your car where you can see the flowmaster tailpipes?

My kit came with two options for the tailpipes (turn-down or straight) that were slip-fit. I chose the turn-downs so that I was able to hide all of the exhaust tubing behind the lower quarter panel except for the turn-down at the very end. I'm not a fan of visible exhaust tubing hanging underneath the quarter panels.

The pair of tailpipes that I linked to above would just need to have small turn-downs put on the very end of them if that's what you wanted to do. Or you could go straight out if that's your preference.
