Couldnt log on for last 2 days... what is the issue causing all these "database errors" lately??

Im on many other forums like this for other hobbies... never experience this kind of problem or the others the PY forum has had lately like the slow posting or not being able to edit a post without waiting 5 minutes like its on dial up service from the 90's. & all the spammers & scammers, never or very rarely see that on other forums.

The comments about losing the forum due to data base errors etc might be or hopefully are a little overkill... Ive watched 2 or 3 very popular forums die recently that didnt have any technical problems, the activity dropped a lot on one and the owner just decided it wasnt worth the costs to keep it going & the other one had good activity for being a smaller niche crowd but then without any warning or indication it was going away, it just didnt work one day and never again, all the years of info were just gone & the owner is nowhere to be found (hope hes doing well). Point is, antiquated web forums can & do die without warning, hopefully this forum with the large number of members & activity wont end up that way.

It would be a travesty if all the 25 years of searchable data here was lost due to the forum dying. All the knowledge, wisdom, part numbers, builds etc lost. Like the Library of Alexandria burning down.

Haven't been able to access the site for the past 3 days until now

I agree 100%... it happened a few years ago to another smaller pontiac niche forum... tons of info & knowledge over 10-15 years just gone...

Unless anyone knows how to use one of those "archive" website retrievers things. Another forum for home audio Im a long time member at just went through some drama from the admins or host company that banned all talk of "modifying or upgrading" their products which was just as popular as doing that to classic cars, and some members mentioned a archive software or program or web service that can retrieve deleted threads. Imagine admins here banning all talk of how to modify or upgrade or increase horsepower on pontiac engines for the sole reason that they thought all Pontiacs should be kept original as they were made on day 1... any mods or change of parts made them, & I quote, "no longer a Pontiac" That literally happened on a long time well know audio brand forum with 2-3 decades of how to improve or upgrade their products. Ridiculous.

So if something were to happen to PY, there are ways to retrieve & save the majority of threads or info... Im just not 100% sure how to do that but its a pretty common thing.

PS, I am able to log in OK as of now but had problems earlier this morning... I was automatically signed out without doing it myself, then when signed back in, the site seems to be working good again... knock on wood.

I check the forum regularly. It’s been a great help for me. I reached out to Eric today. Left a voicemail, sent a message thru their contact link and even spoke with Wendy. The forum is working for now. Hopefully fixed. If/when Eric returns my call, I’ll relay the information. He might be bombarded with messages like mine.

Previously it was just an intermittent delay for me once in a while.
But the last 3 days I was getting nothing - not even the error notice - like it was lost in space.

And no email notices of new posts either during that time.

Just loaded for me for the first time in close to two days.

Turning off my ad-blocker was only a temporary fix.

I'm happy to see the clouds parted for a moment.

I have no appreciation for the challenges a web hosting company deals with, but it does seem like the bots aren't helping...

I guess my question is do other forums crash like this, or do they have some way to filter bots out?

Most every other forum is NOT using out dated forum software...

About Us

The PY Online Forums is the largest online gathering of Pontiac enthusiasts anywhere in the world. Founded in 1991, it was also the first online forum for people to gather and talk about their Pontiacs. Since then, it has become the mecca of Pontiac technical data and knowledge that no other place can surpass.
