I'm running the Kauffman 242/248 cam with a 112 LSA and using 1.6 rockers in my 461 engine. Engine has as-cast KRE heads and Northwind manifold. I have 10" of vacuum at 950 rpm idle. It is enough vacuum for my factory power disc brakes in a 68 Firebird to work properly on street and strip. I really like this cam. Good luck with your build. Love the dual quads!

If you’re planning to drive it a lot I think your better off using the KRE cams that have more seat timing, especially on the exhaust. The seats, valves and guides will last longer on your heads.

My 461 has A/C , ST10, 3.23s, and at .050” is 245/253 with an 114LSA , and over 11 SCR.

Would the evolution lifters be a good choice with the kre 236/242?

Probably as good of an option as any HR lifter that is available right now. Especially for applications using beehive springs.

I`m running the Road Paver cam in my 10.3 compress 463. It`s got a Sanden compressor and it needs a kick up solenoid.

I see you have a Performance Carb carburetor . How do you like it ?
I have 2 of them and hopefully I will get around to tunning them this summer.
A 1100+ cfm 4150 billet carb and a 1050 3 circuit they converted to a 2 circuit for me. Its coated all black, pretty cool lookin IMO.

Mainly spot on. It a little lean on the "top of the primaries". Haven`t tuned it at all. It won`t need much. Idles very clean for a 246/254 cam. Runs better than Pat`s tune [Pro Systems].

Those are the lifters I'm going with. I think with the slightly slower ramps on the Kauffman theyll be perfectly happy. I've read as much as I can possibly bear about roller lifter choices. They seem pretty solid.

I thought Pat was a Pontiac guy who built "the best" carbs ?
Some either really like his stuff or do not like it at all.

I tried to run the 1050 but the "custom" spacer I bought with the intake was made from 1 1/2" plywood leaked, a little piece of the plywood was gone and it was sucking air. I could not get to idle down so I took it off. It sounded pretty mean while I had it on, you could tell it wanted to run. Just could not get the idle down below 2500 or so RPM.
I did fix the spacer though. Filled the little hole with Belzona and covered the whole thing with a special gasoline proof epoxy.
The billet 1100cfm 4150 carb I did make a few passes on. But it was way rich. Plugs were very dark and it even loaded up and died after a burnout. BUT, I did get a 1.39 60 foot out of the thing so when I get it dialed in I think it will be sweet.
I like those guys at Performance Carb. Father Son deal with a ton of knowledge. I was made to believe converting a 1050 3 circuit to a 2 circuit was some big deal. Nope, they informed me all of them start out as 3 circuit just the last little are not drilled all the way through. They simply sold me some custom metering blocks to turn mine into a 2 circuit.
Hopefully I will get a Friday test and tune this month. They told me I could call them up after passes for tuning advice just like a dyno session. Great guys.

I’ve been contemplating using that same size cam…didn’t realize there was a difference between the kre and the butler cam until it was pointed out. Yes the whole lifter thing is overwhelming as we all want something quiet and is going to last.

I thought I was going to have vacuum issues with my bracket engine with its 265-274 . 112 solid roller cam. I had all kinds of contingency plans. Researched what it would take to go with full manual Wilwood front disc brakes, priced it all out. Thought I would try stockish boosted brakes first though.
I bought a electric vacuum pump, the kind that come on modern GM cars . 2 different types. Made custom mounting brackets, bought one way valves ect. Bought a 9" duel booster too. From E Bay and I got in a hurry and did not check if the seller accepted returns for it AND the V pump, (never make that mistake again!)
Well, the 9" booster was slightly too big to clear. So I had a 7" duel booster I booster I bought from a member years ago that I was "sure" it was too small and would not work properly. But it was a quality American made unit that was the kind that made your master cylinder level. Dug it out of the shed and put it on without any electric V pump. Bought a generic aluminum master cylinder from Speedway, 1" bore with SS sleeve, a nice adjustable proportioning valve, made a custom mount where it mounts to the 2 MC bolts and ends up right under it. Got some SS brake lines and made it all fit. Looks great.

It all works fine, plenty of brakes and the car is drum/drum. Over though it, over spent and lit some money on fire while I was at it. The 265 cam with duel 7" booster was plenty. If I had factory disc, even better.

How does the RP run with the 10.3 comp? I haven't started the engine in my 66 yet, it's about 10.3-.4 comp, OF1 cam, 1.65 HS rockers. So looking forward to how it will perform.

I was under the impression KRE uses XFI lobes in the off the shelf HR cams, which don't have lazy lobes. Do you know which lobes in the 236/242?

Runs good. Clean plugs [#7 NGK]. 3500 stall, 3.55 gear, 28 tire. Running 1.5 rockers for 600 lift. This car now has a/c. Docile for a mid 240`s/ mid 250`s cam. It WILL rip to 6200 fast. I have been to 6400 around 4 times. One can tell you have run out of cam there. Have not taken to track.

OF1 will be a sleeper on the street. Dave did a good job on his big 3, HR cams.

Oh, and no problems with the "old" 857 Comp lifters. The ones that are round at the top vs 1/2 at the link bar.
