Hey fellas:

I got some bad news about my daily from the stealership. It is a 2016 GMC Canyonaro but developed a small coolant leak recently

They thought it was one of the block plugs but after replacing that it she still leaked. Then they put a borerscope down the hole and found that my F@%#%# block is cracked!

I have babied this thing since new and barely drive it as I work from home. Has anyone seen this before? My regular mechanic says the manufacturers are cutting corners and has seen this before.

This is a nitemare scenario. It was hard enough replacing the motor in my beloved Pontipig. I must be cursed.

I would see if there are any silent recalls for this issue.

Though being in Canada with this problem may affect coverage.

so cant fix the leak, but i have used moroso ceramic seal for similar issue in the past. it worked very well. as a back up plan. if you go this route make sure you buy the one for antifreeze, and also follow the drections to the letter. hopefully you can get some more useage out of your canyon

External crack in the casting near the freeze plug?

Then use a block sealer as already mentioned.

Internal crack?

May not be fixable.

So exactly where is the crack located?

I'm sorry to hear about this.

If you are thinking of moving on from a depreciating asset, and open to different ideas;
The more I know about the current lot of garbage, which is the new car market, the more a classic truck as a daily driver seems to be a seriously good idea.
In my opinion, there are some decent deals to be had on GMT400's or other pre-1967 GM trucks.

I wanted a truck, you can't buy anything with a V8, manual transmission anymore. I hate screens as well, so I bought a 1965 C10 and should have it done soon. Everything I want, nothing I don't.

I've gone down that road before with a number of AMC bEagles. I'm not handy, I'm handsome so two old vehicles are more than I can handle lol

Used Irontite coolant sealer with success. Sealed larger pin holes in industrial equipment. Bought it from truck parts store but see that Amazon carries it.

Still waiting for the stealership to put humpty back together.

I think they are hoping for an upsell but I'm broke.

I think I will buy a wreck from the insurance auction and get my buddy to do the swap then let her go.

I will miss her tho...

What exact engine was this? 5.3? 6.2?

I would think some kind of a epoxy-based patch would be available for something like that.

As all ready mentioned I have used ceramic seal a few times with good luck. What I used wanted the system flushed first but if they have an antifreeze compatible version I would give it a try. Good luck with it.

Worst case, pour some blue devil in it and send it to the auction like the dealer would. It's a LT 5.3, they're plentiful in the yards near me. Swap isn't bad, if you choose to drop in a junkyard engine it can be done in a weekend at home. Will be a good time to fix broken exhaust manifold bolts too.
