Could it be leftover MFG tooling? Could it be from a mandrel or some factory fixture that was used to carry cranks around or to locate the completed engine during the MFG process? The tool and die shop just threw a random washer on the end of the MFG fixture, and it happens to stick in a crank some summer day in 1969?

Did they really have different cranks for automatic and manual transmissions? I thought all cranks were machined for a pilot bearing.

not all of them where finish machined, the steps are there just not sized for the bushing bearing whichever you prefer

That must be true of production parts only then as there is no difference between stick and automatic on the crankshaft part numbers for service parts.

you could very well be correct on that I really don't know (I'm very sure there are some members of this forum that can tell us for sure though) I just know there is some discussion about this subject on this forum but honestly don't remember which thread it's in.
