455turbo, it looks like you really have the setup working well. So, a few more questions if you don't mind.
Are you runnung exhaust gaskets on the head to manifold ? If so what brand and do you use anything on the gasket? Are you having any trouble keeping the seal? Thanks |

I'm running embossed copper gaskets between the head and manifold. They work great, I've even re-used them a couple of times. I got them from http://www.chiefmanyhorses.com

455Turbo: what trans and tq in your car ? th400?or
if th400 so ,during dynoing on 3rd gear,how was the power kicking in with whatever stall converter you have and flash of stall vs boost? did you get any intial spike in the graph.

I have a TH400 with a custom built ATI 10" converter. It's supposed to stall around 3500 rpm. I start a dyno pull in 3rd gear at about 2000 rpm and mash the gas pedal. The engine hits 5,000 rpm and 18.5 psi of boost in about .5 seconds. There's no initial spike, the hp graph shows a straight line.

I no longer have that beautiful 66 in my Avatar. whaaa! When a cat is dropped it always lands on its feet. When buttered toast is dropped it always lands with the buttered side facing down. If a piece of buttered toast was attached to the back of a cat, when dropped, the cat/buttered toast combination should hover, spinning just above the ground, as it tries unsuccessfully to resolve the inevitable conflict of non-scientific certainties. |

The block is a 1970 production block bored .035" over. I've installed steel 4 bolt mains and a steel front main cap. The rear main cap is factory. I'm using ARP studs. The lifter valley has been deburred.
Crankshaft is production 1970 455, turned .020 on mains and rods. I'm using Eagle rods and custom JE pistons. I've had it apart a couple of times and everything looks good. Probably because I don't go over 6200 rpm. Thaks for the kind words.

I really think you could make a living selling the set up for a Big price. It looks so clean and your numbers would sell it. Do it on a website with a video of your car and engine.
Pre order only with money up front. Delievry time is as long as you take to build the kit say it took you 3 months. Tell them 6 if you need extra time. I'm sure there is quite a few guys who would spring the money needed for the set up. I would if I had money I would order the set up right now!

Hey 455, this is LoiusianaGuy, we are fabbing up my manifolds now, and I was lookin at the pics you sent me and wondering why on the rear exhaust port you used a 90 to the left with a concentric reducer to go into the 2" pipe...why not just run the pipe all the way back to the rear port and dump it into the main chamber like the other 3? I know you probably had a reason I was just wondering what it was....Man talk about a pain in the butt to cut those 90's correctly and fit them in the header flanges..woo.

Tempest - the core support is to move the radiator forward to make room for the turbo air inlets. It would be difficult to put everything under the hood without it. There are many more custom parts in there too, a custom alternator bracket, custom pulleys, custom power steering pump and brackets, custom motor mounts, relocated proportioning valve, custom upper and lower radiator hose, custom steering shaft, custom power steering hoses, and so on.
A kit would be incredibly expensive, the big problem is the exhaust, there are manifolds, wastegates, pipes, and bypass pipes. All of it is custom fabricated out of stainless steel. A supercharger kit doesn't have this problem and would be much less expensive. I've posted before that I'd be happy to build manifolds for anyone who wants them, so far noboday has. I realize that I'm asking a lot for them, but as LouisianGuy has found out, they're not easy to build. LouisianaGuy - I suppose you could skip the reducer, lengthen the main pipe, cap off the end, and dump the far cylinder into it. It would probably work fine. Lemans - Good luck with your setup. If there's anything I can do to help, just ask. I have a pair of d-port manifolds and Turbonetics deltagates for sale if you want them. |

If I could afford to pay for a set I would definatley have bought a pair of $55's manifolds...would have saved me alot of running around and getting parts and going to the local shop to have the fittings mashed and using a portaband ot cut the fittings which are not perfect and will have to be welded up to hide the nasties LOL...but Im configuring my stuff a little different as well..Im going to attempt to keep my power steering in stock location :P

Nice setup, I like the aluminium work. Are those bolts attaching the core support to the fenders stainless steel? It looks like they might be? If you attach steel and aluminium together, you are setting up a galvanic couple, which will lead to severe corrosion. Stainless bolts will lessen the attack. A seperation boundry will help as well, clear tape between the two parts and a stainless bolt would be best. Stainless will polish up very nicely, and it will retain the shine, unlike polished aluminium which requires upkeep...
It looks great, talk about a sleeper...
