Initial Timing ?

What initial timing does everyone run ?
My 72 350 converted to HEI and 4 bbl is set at 12º BTDC and I was wondering if I should go more.
In it's former 2 bbl and Points set-up the specs say 10º...

Valve seats

Do they make hardened valve seats for older heads ?
I have a 72 350 and an starting to think I may have a Head issue. What tests can I do short of pulling the heads of and doing a visual inspection...

How much Manifold vacuum at idle

What amount of intake manifold vacuum is normal ?
I hooked up my Mity Vac to my intake to use as a vacuum gage and it showed 19 lbs of vacuum. Is this right and normal.

I just put on a Edel. Performer intake and 1405 (600cfm) Carb. and and a Stock HEI Distributor.
It has stock 7H1 heads. I looked up the heads and I think it says...

It did have the TCS system from factory but that was bypassed since before I owned the car.
It only backfires thru the Carb when I get the timing to far the wrong way.
