and they're SOB to get to!!! Those and the valve cover sensors are the ones that fail the most. The "AB" HEUI injectors have some reliability problems as well (scored body/plunger assys and intensifier pistons) in high mileage engines.

Our techs actually got pretty good at replacing them, we replaced so many. Then Ford decided they'd start warrantying them and - except for a couple of VERY high-mileage trucks - we were done.

We see so very few diesels any more that we send them away now. Excepting my (now long gone) 2005 2500HD Crew we've never had another Duramax in the bay. Most 7.3 PSDs are gone from our area now, and we can't / won't work on a 6.0, 6.4 or 6.7 PSD. Never had a Cummins darken our doorway either.

Our bays and lifts are undersized for Crew Cab diesels anyway . . .

check out how ford engineers redesigned the hanger bearing on their new trucks. this is a 2009 with 90000kms(55000miles) . not serviceable and not available seperate from ford. local ford dealer wants $1400.00 for a new shaft that only needs a $75.00 hanger bearing. actually the bearing is fine, just the rubber mounting is wrecked. to get the guy on the road for now we welded tabs from the hanger bearing housing to the outer bearing race basically eliminating the rubber from the equasion.

also instead of that sticker on the driveshaft they should have one on the dash. SCRAP IF THIS TRUCK MAKES IT OFF WARRANTY

The front wheel bearings on 2003-up Dodge 4x4 3/4 and 1 ton trucks with AAM 9-1/4" front axles are of unitized construction. They are not serviceable and no replacement bearings or seals are available for them

Where is the fuel filter on 2004 dodge 5.7 liter hemi?
it's non-serviceable. The filter is actually incorporated into the fuel pump assembly. I recommend you have someone perform a fuel volume and pressure test to verify proper pump operation. good luck Read More

ohh yeah! i remember these runnin around used in the 80s when i was a kid..guy had a 75? cheyenne super with buckets n console with the 454 damn those trucks were nice...classy and quick...guess my old 79 3/4 ton 454 suburban doesnt make the cut any more..oh well, at least its paid for!! i sure as heck wouldnt want a payment on these new trucks today for anything! ow!

Don't you have drive shaft shops up there? I can go to St Paul to CATCO and have ANY drive shaft repaired or made from scratch.

Looks to me like the shaft was out of balance,trans mount broke or the slip joint froze up from lack of grease.
Those are the common causes of hanger bearing rubber getting chewed up.

um, fords are the same. plus on fords you have to deal with there vacuum operated /manual hubs which are useless
