Anyways just picked up my 2012 Ford F-150 Company truck and I must say WOW over the 2010 I had.(it had the low power 2 valve 4.6) This one has the 5 liter with the 6 speed, ext cab 4x4. This thing screams ( and yes I am an 'old" GM man). Very impressive.

I know this is an old thread, but I just saw it, and I suppose everybody is entitled to his opinion. Won't get into the argument, but here's my pick. #1-- Dodge LWB Quad Cab dually, with a Cummins and manual tranny. #2--The latest model Ford LWB crew cab dually that was available with a 7.3D and a manual tranny(I think that was either '02 or '03). #3--GMC LWB crew cab dually with Dmax/Allison. And the color must be shiny black, regardless of brand.

Don't want a Chevy at all, because they were always our enemy on the drag strip. And most of the drivers were sore losers when their high $ Chevy got beat by our old raggedy Pontiacs. Yes, I know GMC & Chevy is the same truck, both built by GM. And I'm allright with that, as long as I don't have to drive a truck with Chevy bowties on it! Yeah, I know I'm weird. But hey, this is an opinion thread--Thats mine!

Chevy trucks do drive and ride nicer and I cannot fault the D-Maxx it has plenty of balls.
The 7.3 P-stroke is just as durable as the Cummins IMO. In my experience if you're going to work a truck hard the Ford frame is superior.
A 6.0 with an updated EGR and head studs is not a bad engine, either.

I second your opinion of the 7.3/6BT comparison. In my experience, I would give a slight edge to the 7.3 P-stroke. They don't have the head warping problems the 6BT has.

Longer cylinder head = greater chance for warping

Seems to me Cummins 855s / 14Ls had this issue when they racked up 700-800K miles
as did 3406 CATs ? It's all going to expand and contract back and forth and longer = more of it.

Plus the 7.3 has a shorter more ridged crank.

Some 5.9s had poorly cast blocks from Brazil which were crack prone, and the death nail was that dwoel pin that came off in some years.

I know in medium duty use the 5.9 is gutless, the 7.3 is much better.

The 855 big cam and small cams that I worked on in my younger days had three heads. No warp issues but we would have to deck the blocks on the high milers from the head gaskets "digging in"
