Christmas 1968. It was a good time to be a little kid. Totally oblivious to the racial tensions and Vietnam, etc of the day. My first Hot Wheels, still have most of my toys from childhood.
At the time, I thought the '68 GTO was the most beautiful car ever made. Still love them too and it is still one of the best cars ever made.

I can tell you EXACTLY what the Grand Prix car is doing.

They were granted special compensation by the Governor of California because Riverside was incomplete at the time and they didn't have garage facilities or something along those lines.

Yes, it had a trailer hitch too and I did use it. All my cars have always had them.

This pic reminds me of myself last week as I pulled the 347 out of my own '57 Chieftain.

Steve, I have a friend who's dad flew B-58 Hustlers and I found this postcard (link below) and the guy flying that Hustler in that photo is him. I took it to him to get autographed and he sent it to the surviving crew member to have him sign it too. I thought that was cool! He has the coolest story about taking ground crew members for rides in it when they were retiring the plane, it was a MONSTER and he flew it like he stole it! lol! It's fun to talk to those people that have done things like that, what an experience!

Not clear enough to read, but looks to me that it is same as the "455 C.I.D." call out on other '70s as far as size and how it aligns with the "GTO" decal.

I don't know '70s very well, but that's what it looks like to me.

Vaguely recall hearing that Grissom was known as a practical joker. Was it him?

Mercury, Gemini, Apollo what a magical time that was.

Pic of that wreck is printed reverse image (accounting for the RH drive steering wheel).

But raise your hand if you remember gas being that cheap (my hand is up).

Also, coincidentally, of the cars in the background, my Dad owned a '50 or so Chevy that had that same fastback roofline, we called it 'ol Betsy. Ratty interior in '63-'64 but ran great with a rebuilt engine. And the Mopar passing by looks a lot like my first car, '63 Fury hardtop. Oh yeah, I was into HO scale slot cars but the pic of the larger scale stuff brings back memories too.

Pecan block flooring. Almost completely gone now in modern factories. My plant recently tore up the last remaining aisle that was pecan. Those blocks would eject themselves out of the floor when wet.

They are slippery when wet, and greasy, too.

I used to take my shoes off and set them in the pickup box before I would get in my truck at the end of each workday (...and it had vinyl flooring).

Bud still runs a "Honker" in the Nostalgia Super Stock class with the National Muscle Car Association.

I am in Indianapolis this weekend for the NMCA finals, so it is possible that I could run into him tomorrow or Sunday.
