We did both our motors in cast coat iron which has a slight metallic sheen to it. Then the intake in cast coat aluminum and chrome valve covers. I do still like the Pontiac blue with the silver tint.

The moron that I unfortunately had build my current 350 Pontiac motor didn't ask or even try to find out what color to paint it and as I was in the hospital I didn't find out until I went to help with the install. So I got a Ford blue engine. Didn't look horrible but I would have preferred Pontiac blue. Go with what you like unless you're going for a correct restoration, it's your car make it how you like and don't worry about someone else telling you it's not right.

Owned a Cutlass with a gold rocket engine which is probably one reason I like it. Have always liked Olds' metallic metal colors. A bronze 428 with black covers and accessories. Hmmm ...

It seems to me, only a Chevy guy could get tired of Pontiac Silver Blue Metallic.

I agree. I used to paint all my engines black. I brought my friends `79 W72 T/A to a car show. You could hear the folks calling it a big block. So, I started using Pontiac colors to help clear up any doubt.

I had my 389 in my 55 that color for awile. Now light blue with the 455. It's a 40-57 Blue Green and the only place to carry it is Bill Hirsch auto.

I love the late '60s Pontiac metallic blue. It's one of the things I love about Pontiacs. That said, my '73 has a theme to it - black with silver/polished/chrome trim and that will carry through to the engine.
My '72 Formula is more of a resto-mod so keeping it Pontiac blue as the goal is for it to be fairly stock looking at first glance.

I once painted the 455 in my '57 Starchief Hot Magenta Pink! Thank goodness I don't have any pics of that one!
I did end up painting that one Metallic Purple though..................

Like I said, I do love that metallic blue, but come this June at Pypes/Max Friday Night BBQ and Cruise June 19, you are going to see like 250 engines this color. Including the current engine in my car. I cut my teeth on Mopar. But did own a Nova! (and i would buy another one right now! and drop in a YAK motor!!!)

Love the shades of Pontiac blue that have been used. I have grown fond of the Olds blue used in 75 and 76, this is on my current KRE motor in my TA. Also fond of the 64 and 65 blue. Black is OK , but hard to spot an early oil leak.

If you want something close to that without spending the $14 a can from Bill Hirsch, duplicolor makes a racing green engine enamel that's a dark green shade.
