Ram4king can you provide casting dates on those and if the air injection is used?
I agree Rocky, the investigation can be addictive!

I don't know that these are not 061 castings!
Are the castings on a original GTO, or bird? Pressed in rocker studs would make it a 061 casting so you may even be able to just take a peak in thru the oil filler cap to prove this out.

Ram4King, very cool!
Like Steve, I would guess 061, but can't say for sure without other details like chamber shape and rocker stud type. Thanks for sharing! |

Did the 061 headed motors come with a Carter 4 bbl, or a Q jet?

Yes. Have a pair on my shelf. Seems the '061' numbers have two configurations.

Boy! Looks like foundry workers screwed Down casting tags onto wherever they cared to at times, as I have seen quite a few 061 castings , but all the verticle numbers on one Exh port is new to me!

You may have hit on something!
Once the factory confirmed that the open chamber in the late season 061 casting had better emissions they likely stopped casting replacement 670 heads to go on part shelves!

I’ve already talked with Rocky on this but thought I’d share with all. Another set of 670x heads, original to my ‘67 GTO with Ram Air. These heads dated J146 and have the X stamp. These are the dirtier looking in the pics.
I’ve also got a set of mid January ‘67 670X heads that I aquired separately as well as a late ‘67 9792510 XS motor with matching 997 heads with the X stamping.
