I had the same problem with the Original Hood Springs for my '68 GTO. I bought the AMES new springs and assemblies. They barely hold the hood up. Very disappointing.

There is no clip. They simply screw in. If the metal is worn out or stripped, they may not hold very tight. They do not need much torque to stay in place.

Been running the Edelbrock ProFlo4 for more than two years and it is an excellent system. I would go with an in-tank fuel pump since it makes the process and plumbing much easier.
