How would the cable need to be modified? Is a fitting mod or the cable itself?

It can be done with everything in place. I don't recommend it. If I could do it again, which im sure I will have to do eventually, I would tear everything off after the frustration and contortions...

I think Serge's valley pan is without any opening for the pcv or at least looks that way in the pic. You need vented valve covers if you have a setup like that i think which is why he has it hooked...
