I built a 400 2 years ago with a Comp roller cam/lifters and E-heads. The pushrods were 8.650. I built an identical 400 this year, the pushrods were 8.750.
No idea what was different, I suspect...

Keep working on your 60', bump up your shift points a bit and you will have your 7.90s. Then, you need more gear...then you need more cam....then you need some spray.....
