One thing I was planning to use was a line lock the is made for a hydraulic clutch setup. It has an adjustable restricter so you can slow the clutch engagement which would make the hit a lot softer....

I quit using Fram filters after I ballooned one from too much pressure...

If your engine's oil was changed regularly then you shouldn't have any problem. Where synthetic oils really tend to leak is with engines that have varnish buildup because they clean the varnish away....
