the reason for that plate behind the shifter is because he does not have the 4 speed insert for the console. On automatics, the ash tray is in front, while the manuals have the ash tray to the rear....

I got 3.23 gears. I would like 3.42 but not sure how to swap out gears. That clutch looks nice but a little pricey. I can't remember ever doing a hole shot with this Grand Am and doubt I ever will....

I just can't understand why someone would buy a brand new Grand Am or Can Am and not order it with A/C. It blows my mind when I see these A bodies w/o A/C.

He is referring to the reverse lockout mechanism...

He is referring to the reverse lockout mechanism that usually got removed when an aftermarket Hurst shifter was installed. It's mounted of left side frame rail.
